For those of you that shot 300 or 800 this year...
« on: June 11, 2008, 04:37:44 AM »
I'm just curious on a few things. Like are you naturally gifted, you really don't need to practice that much? Are you a cranker, stroker, tweener? Do you practice alot, work on your game alot, bowl on several leagues?  How many years have you been bowling?  What is your current average?  Did you get any brooklyn or lucky strikes while bowling that 300?

I shot 300 in March.
1) It's hard to say what 'naturally gifted' means.  I taught myself to bowl, having only 3 or 4 coaching sessions in my life.  I started bowling in 1987 but took 4 years or so off after college to focus on getting my career and family off to a good start.
2) I practice about 7-10 games/week during league season.  A little less in the summer.
3) Tweener.  I have hand, but I can also throw it straight when the conditions require.
4) Practice is for working on my game.  When I practice, I work on things that need improving.
5) I bowl on 1 league in the fall.
6) Bowling 20 years.  Average 212 this past fall.
7) The only really lucky shot was the 12th when I got the ball a little inside and watched it skid all the way to the pocket.  How it failed to leave a 6-pin is beyond me.

Meh, not gifted, just been bowling for 20 years and I like to soak up knowledge. I know I've gotten a few lucky breaks in my different 300s. Sometimes it's high flush, and 3 times on the 11th ball I've gone brooklyn. But it was flush brooklyn

Don't practice cause I was bowling in 4 leagues in 4 houses this past winter avg anywhere from 214 to 223. But then, I also do it more for the socializing then the actual bowling.

I feel I'm better at being a coach then I am a bowler.

Some say I am naturally gifted. I actually don't practice much. I am one of those types that if I practice to much I develop bad habits. I am a carnker. When I do practice I work on certain things, like timing, spare shooting, etc... I don't work on my physical game alot but I do work on my mental game everytime I bowl. I bowl two leagues during the winter and bowl regionals in the summer. I have been bowling since I was 9, so that's like 16 years. I averaged this year in both leagues 237. As everyone says when you shoot 300 you have to have at least one break, as I did in all of mine. One was a messanger, one the ball held line and the six pin laid on the ten pin. The other on I don't remember to well but that doesn't matter.

Was natural gifted. Age and injuries have diminished the athletic part of my game. Much more mechanical now. Don't get to practice much because of work. Averaged 189 for about 8 years bowling 36 to 54 games a year. Bowled full time in 06/07 and ave 189 in travel league and 199 in my Fri night league. In 07/08 my 2nd full year back bumped those to 203/204 and shot my first 300. First seven solid, light wall shot in 8th, solid last 4 with a messenger 9 pin first ball of tenth.

Not naturally gifted no. Carried a 213 avg on Tuesday night and 212 on Wed night leagues. Shot 2 300's this year, first one was clean, 2nd I got lucky with a brooklyn in the 11th. Also shot 800 this year - 277/278/245.. yes 800 on the button. I do not practice much, and would say I am tweener. Have been bowling since 1979.

NOT TO BOAST,BUT YOU ASKED.I BOWLED 7 300'S THIS YEAR AND 4 800'S WITH THE HIGHEST BEING 855.I'VE BEEN BOWLING ABOUT 32 YEARS NOW AND MY HIGH AVERAGE THIS YEAR WAS 234. I GUESS A LOT OF PRACTICE IN MY YOUNGER DAYS PAYED OFF THROUGH THE YEARS.I'M 49 YEARS OLD NOW.I BOWLED ON THE REGIONAL TOUR FOR ABOUT 7 YEARS.MY FRIENDS REFER TO ME AS AN INSTANT REPLAY,BECAUSE EVERYTHING LOOKS THE SAME,AND BOWLING ON TODAYS SOFT CONDITIONS HELPS.WORK ON BEING CONSISTANT,KEEP YOUR NERVES IN CHECK BY THINKING ABOUT OTHER THINGS WHILE YOUR SITTING AROUND,AND WHEN YOUR TURN COMES UP YOU SHOULDN'T BE THINKING ABOUT ANYTHING.MAKE THE BEST SHOT YOU CAN,AFTER THAT IT'S UP TO THE BOWLING GODS.

I've been bowling for since I was 8.  Put alot of time and money into it over the years, but I don't practice nearly as much as I used to.  Shot the 3 and the 8 second week of league on old wood lanes house shot with a Cherry Vibe, playing 20 to the gutter.  I consider myself a low end cranker that loves to play in.  League avg at the end of the year was 236 and from what I remember I didn't throw any brooklyn strikes but certaintly didn't pure all 36 shots.
