For those who wanted to know about the knee
« on: January 07, 2005, 02:40:35 AM »
I had been asked by a few of you to report on the knee after my visit w/ the Dr.

He seems to think that one of two things are going on, neither of which I am competent to describe.  One had to do with something called a Bursa, the other with something actually slipping and blocking extension of the knee (Doc, help me out here).  He did say that everything seems stable and that it's not a serious problem at this time.  (I wanted to tell him that it seriously hurt like holy bejazus.)

SO, I'm bowling, hoping it doesn't happen again.  I must admit that I'm a bit wary of it.  It's sort of distracting.

Did your doc indicate if there are any kind of braces or supports that will help?  I was forced to use one for two months after an injury and found that it didn't detract from my bowling.

Good to hear you're ok, and that it is not a serious problem.

Rags all I can say is becareful. Mine began to give me problems 3 years ago, began with a bursa problem, then a slight meniscus tear, two scopes later and now a total knee replacement. Been hobbling around now for 3 weeks post op, stiff, sore and more pain than I've ever experienced b4. Naturally it had to be my slide leg, oh well look at the money I'll be saving over the next 3-6 months.

Rags, thanks for the update.  I understand what your doc told you and neither condition is all that serious even though either can cause enough discomfort to make one think something horrible is wrong.

A bursa is nothing more than a sac filled with watery fuild that acts as a pad between bones and can become inflammed and very painful.  They can be injected with cortisone and clear right up.

The other problem sounds like the knee cap tendon which can also become inflammed and be painful.  That can be treated with various drugs.

Its great that you are back on the lanes even if you do feel a bit timid to charge that foul line like you would like.

Bones! .. Welcome back!  Hope all is well in your world!

I was thinking the same thing (i.e. patella tendon).  Unfortunately I'm dealing with an osteoarthritic left knee (slide leg).  Had surgery years ago (cartlige & meniscus damage).  Wore a brace for a while - picture of the brace and company I got it from ->http://www.isports.com/ctiOA.htm custom made.  Last summer I finally decided to try bowling again.  Wore it for a month or so then removed it.  Knee felt really good.  Sad to say, I'm again using it, as I 'tweaked' it while helping my 'soon to be wife' move into my house.  Taking Glucosamin Chondroitin to help but R&R is the key.
