last night at league
« on: January 04, 2017, 12:13:02 PM »
I bowl on a team that is probably the 3rd highest team average in the league (30 team league, 5 members)

Im around. Our averages are 220, 213, 208. 205 and 195. Smaller city (80k population) and averages across the board are lower than most metro areas. Just because less numbers of bowlers.

Last night, I began throwing a no rules and everyone else was throwing shiny equipment.

Leadoff 650
2hole 640
me 730
4th 690
anchor 740

we shoot 1278 game 1 with 2 opens in the 10th

after league. Other team comes up to us and says. "Thanks for making league bowling no fun" Apparently they were under the assumption that we burned the  lanes up to where they couldn't play them. When in reality they just never put in any work on their game (other than just drilling a new piece)

Am i in the wrong for telling them to work on their game if they want to beat us?

Stupid is as stupid does! You just smile and ignore the stupid people. Unfortunately, there are many of them out here. I subbed in a league last night and the five man team I was bowling against, put up 1244! They had similar averages to your team. I was on a 5 bagger when my ball just stopped rolling and I got "the big four" in the ninth! It dawned on me, that three of their bowlers were on that same line, plus two on my team.

I moved!! Jumped 5 boards inside of that line and continued closing frames. Not once did I consider telling them, they messed up the game for me, and didn't make it fun!! How crazy is that? It's called adjustment!.....and focus.....and paying attention.
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

In a past league there was a team that would forfeit rather than bowl my team.  while yes, my team had 4 of the 5 high averages in the league, myself and one other were tweener/cranker in a house otherwise filled with more classic stroker styles.

so, I would play this shot 16 or 17 board at the arrows, swing to 6 at the break and my teammate was 20/21 to 5 or 6.  It just psyched out the other team that their up the 10 board line crossed our lines twice.  these guys (170 or so average bowlers, capable of a 220+ game) would get so pissed off.  anyways, the last 2 years I was in that league they forfeited every time they bowled us and took the night off.

its amazing how in a "fun" relatively low $$ handicap/house shot league some can act certain ways.  this was in 2009/2010 and we paid $11 a night to bowl.  there was maybe $250 prize for first place team!  high individual game and series paid $20 at the end of year, and people are still acting like they were cheated out of millions.

you just have learn to live with/ignore it.

Funny thing is, I'm in a mostly for fun handicap league and I keep running into all the low average bowlers playing up the boards ruining my shot. Last night I was throwing my lightest oil ball and it started double checking, I would hit where they burned out at about 30ft and it would eat up all my power. I ended up grabbing a Cell Pearl and moving 11 boards left to get clear of them. My ultimate thought is, handicap is there to make it fair, all you can do is try to throw the best you can and let the rest take care of itself. Sounds like some good shooting, well done.
Always be sincere, even when you don't mean it.
