raising ball speed
« on: July 15, 2008, 10:10:55 AM »
My fiancee is having trouble getting her ball speed up.  Ive worked on timing, pushaway, loose swing, even firming up the follow thru to get her ball speed up. We cant seem to break 13mph.

Anyone got any suggestions as to how to get her ball speed up?

I know i need a video of her to get some real advice, but i was just hoping to get some tips to try out.

Have her hold the ball higher in her stance.  Bring it up to shoulder height

Are her feet too slow? Is her ball too heavy? Just some ideas...

Raise the ball up in her stance prior to pushaway, and have her walk a little faster. Works like a charm for a lot of people.

I had the same problem. I was holding on to the ball to long because i had the wrong pitch in my thumb. And i would slide and release the ball at the same time. I move up on the approach and that put my swing in time. I went from   13mph to 16mph. Hope this helps

Tell her she's just too weak to throw the ball more than 13 mph, but not to worry her pretty little head about it.  Betcha her next throw after that will be a lot faster.

I know a lot of female bowlers that fall in that range, and typically they have issues with the thumb pointing down and having the ball 'fall' off their hand into the lane. Naturally if they could keep their fingers under it more through the swing they could project it better.
