Military bowlers
« on: November 07, 2006, 08:49:51 PM »
I see some of the military bowlers on this site have bowled for the AF team.  I'm thinking of submitting my 303 next season.  Would any of you be willing to give me pointers on what to list?  How does the process work?

Andrew,

Bowl in as many big tournaments as you can.  List things like how you did at Nationals, State tournaments, PBA Regionals (as a non-member), etc.  The coach is looking for performances in big tourneys on difficult shots.  Judging by what you have listed in your profile you have a better than average chance of being invited.  All you need to do is list your accomplishments.
Look at the AF services web page and print out this years listing of invitees.  I took that list and looked up those names and how they finished compared to me at Nationals.  I printed out their scores and mine and sent them in with my 303.  I was invited that year.  The year before I was in Alaska, I bowled in the state Team USA qualifier, and several scratch tournaments was the City scratch champion, and finished 3rd in our All Star points total.  I bowled 4-300 games in 3 different centers that year and did not get invited.  Chuck is looking at big tournament performances that he can use to compare you to other high level bowlers.

Another great way to get recognized is to bowl in the Military Classic tournament in Vegas at the end of January.  The coach is there scouting players.  Keep working on your game and bowl in some high level tournaments and you will get an invitation.

Good luck,

Andrew,

Just like Moose said..

Get into the big tourneys when you can.  If you can get to the Military Classic I highly recommend it (and I will be in Vegas again this year for it..).

If you can get a chance to bowl a sport league and can average 200 that is a huge helper also.

I have been to the camp a few times and look forward to a few more times in my future. Missed out this year as will be in the middle of a move to Germany..

Hope this helps!

Well, whether it helps or not, I won't be returning to the Military Classic in Vegas.  I can't afford to avg in the 2-teens and get zilch back.  I plan on going to the Open Championships every year.  I bowled like crap last year, but still got back 400, avg'd 204.

I've got a few tourneys, just need to bowl more.  I broke my toe last season and then got deployed this summer after signing up for a SS league.

I wish that my brother was still bowling so that he could do something like this. Maybe after he gets back from his "vacation" overseas he could get involved.
