Fun Challenge - Building an 4 ball arsenal
« on: March 15, 2011, 06:15:47 AM »
    Just for discussion purposes...

You get 4 balls for your leagues and tournaments all year.  You cannot swap out during the year.  You can choose a spare ball, but then you only get 3 other balls.

1 other rule:  You can only choose 1 ball from each of the companies.
Can be old or new.  If you have a pink hammer, you can use it.

How are you building your arsenal & why?

Wow, I read this question, then realized that it now desribes PERFECTLY what has happened to me totally by accident.

1. Heavy oil- Hammer ANGER

2. Heavier mediums- AMF CODE

3. Lighter mediums- Seismic EUPHORIA

4. Drier/spares- RotoGrip GRENADE

And YES, I have a PINK HAMMER!

My choices would include:

Columbia Pure Physics
Roto Grip Grand Illusion
Hammer Midnight Vibe
Track 300C

All balls that I am comfortable throwing and feel I could cover a wide range of lane conditions with these.

Just for discussion, is skill a part of this test, or just change balls if you feel like it?    Sorry post, sorry I even answered.   To cover a house shot anything will work, don't worry about it.

I'll play along (even though I hate the idea of plastic counting).

1)  Plastic - I throw plastic at all spares except double wood (2-8 for me and for the 3-6-9-10), so to me this is the MOST important ball in the bag.

2)  Light Oil - I would probably go with a Storm Tropical Heat, drilled weak at 4000 + UFO

3)  Medium Oil - I'll probably go with a Brunswick Anaconda, Pin up surface 1000 + Polish

4)  Heavy Oil - Solaris Requeium.  Never have thrown Seismic so this would hopefully cover some thicker and longer patterns. Probably would keep the cover at 500 + 2000

Since I am not a fan of plastic, except in cases of extreme drought, this opens up my choices a bit:

Oiler: Storm VG Nano

Med to Heavy: Lane#1 Time Bomb Black Fire

Med to Dry: Hammer Spike

Dry: Brunswick Black Rhino, Polished Until It Glows

Note: I do have an Ebonite Clear Wolf for insanely dry/burned out conditions... but my league conditions never get bad enough to use it...

OK

VG Nano................Heavy

505T.......................MedHeavy/Medium

Bank Pearl.............MedHeavy/Medium

Red Backlash.........MedLight/Dry/Spare

I can cover a lot of scenarios with a medheavy/med solid and pearl combo. The BP is a great ball and pretty versatile. It can cover true medheavy to medium conditions, the Red Backlash can handle anything under that....big drop between BP and Red Backlash, but Id rather have versatility up higher.

If we were talking THS only at multiple houses....I wouldnt take a VG nano, I would put a Roto Grip Dark Star under the BP, but since tournaments are included, then the VG Nano fits

My Current Arsenal:

715T................... 65x4.4x30  1000AB

505T................... 65x4.5x30  2000AB

Bank Pearl...........60x5x40     1500 polished

Dark Star.............70x3.5x40  1500 polished

Red Backlash.......80x3x40     2000 polished
