Grinding out a set

What do you guys do to try to make the best of a night when you either encounter miserable conditions or can't execute for whatever reason? All too often, I feel like I am encountering nearly unplayable conditions (and no it isn't a case of "I can't play my A game! This shot sucks!") I start out playing around 12-7 which is my A game. No oil to be had and my Kinetic burns up. Move inside and play about 16-10. Find a little bit of oil, but I hit carry down and the ball skates. Get it out further and the ball won't kick corner pins. Try to find a happy medium, and it doesn't work out at all. Move right and play straight up with a 15 year old ball... Best look yet, but still inconsistent results because of patchy conditions. Most of the time when I see something like this, I crank up the speed to around 20+ mph and wing it at the pocket and pray for lucky carry

I just play what evers carrying. Be prepared to get left or go up the boards... bowling can be miserable sometimes.

Kinda depends on the varying conditions I am seeing.  Do I want to find the best carry and deal with no area (170-240 games), or do I bang the pocket all day and grind (195-215).

Usually for a league environment I will grind out the consistent scores that may be below my average.  I would hate to lose a game shooting 170.

For tournament settings, shooting even gets you no where a lot of times so I have to find the carry and hope I am consistent that day.

Find my best look and chalk the leaves up to spare practice.

If I have a clean set(no open frames), I actually enjoy those days more than shooting a high score.

It really depends on whether you are having a problem executing or whether your game just doesn't match up that night.  If the former I spend my energy trying to get my game back.  If the latter I am probably just having carry problems, and I will work on small adjustments, and/or ball changes to get some carry.

Main thing is to keep your concentration, and font start blowing easy spares

spares are a big focus. Usually for me a ball with some surface works best on tough conditions to help blend out some of the over under that less surface magnifies.

 If throwing the ball terrible I try and slow everything down and regroup.

I try to reset and go back to my mechanics. Slow down a touch and at least make good shots. If I can tell myself at the end of the night that I executed well but just couldn't string the strikes for anything impressive, I'm still satisfied.

Spares as always too.

Everything you stated happens to many people.  The important thing to do is to learn from this night and move forward with a different plan of attack.  Make the ball change in game 2 before you run into trouble.  Play the inside line for game 3 since the other line didn't work.

Let that play out and learn from it.  It may work or it may not.  Eventually you will accumulate more and more information and should be able to make better decisions.  I am a firm believer in starting the night with a plan of attack.  I am also (sometimes) knowledgeable enough to know when my original plan should be changed.  But one thing I don't do is just start chucking balls down the lane with no regard for a predetermined plan.
