General idea of league fees
« on: October 02, 2005, 12:13:35 PM »
I was wondering what the general cost of adult league fees is.  As many of you know i'm a youth bowler, i pay $10 a week which i consider ridiculous seeing  how all we get are trophies.  I heard some adult leagues in my area spanned from $15 a week to $17 a week.  I've even seen a ladies scratch triples league at my center that bowls 4 games a week for $25!

My Thursday night league is $15 per bowler per week. It's broken down like this:

Bowling fee-$8.80

Secretary fee-$.40

Prize fund-$5.80

I bowl in two leagues in which I pay $17.00 in one and the another $20.00. In the $20.00 league the first prize is $15,000.00 plus a new bowling ball for the 5 member team.

Lineage costs in this area...

Red Crown Bowling Center-8.75
ABC East-8.75
Trindle Bowl-8.75
ABC North-9.00
ABC West-9.75

An hour north in Pine Grove is 6.75.

This is all before prize fund is taken into account---this is just what the lanes charge for 3 games. Outrageous if you ask me. But hey---proprietors put their spin on it however they want---its still outrageous.

Around here league lineage runs $8.50 to $10.50 depending on the center.

League fees for adults go from $10 up depending on the prize fund size.

I’m not a proprietor but I’m amazed they can provide bowling that cheap. And if they were making money hand over fist (like they did in the 1960’s) new centers would be opening all the time.

If you look at cost of a lane bed, utilities (heating, cooling, lights, running the machines, etc), labor, insurance, taxes, pins and maintenance cost to machinery the numbers get big very fast.

Here all of the leagues are around $9 for lineage (more or less depending on the length of the season), a cut for the secretary fee, some for BVL, some for the scholarship fund, and the rest for the prize fund.  All of the "normal" adult leagues here are $13/week and it's been like that for at least four years.

My leagues are 18 and 20 respectively.

We won 94 games in my 18 league and only got back 199.00 each last year.

We won 53 in my 20 league and got back 325 each last year.

Go figure.  I do not see how people talk about leagues paying back what you paid the whole year.

Especially the $15,000 Borincano spoke about earlier.

How is that possible?
