Title: General Mass Bias Placement Effects

The "formula" in the FAQ Section isn't very clear, so is there some sort of chart or something that I can use to help me?  A degree:reaction ratio or formula, or, anything that I can use for that matter?

I think it is Rolrite proshop.com or something like that that has a description of the degree layout system which is what is mentioned in Ebonite drill sheets when they talk about 45 degree bomb placement, etc.  You need to have a Jayhawk Quarter Scale that has the protractor built into it to lay it out correctly plus your axis coordinates.  Once you play around a bit, it is very easy to do and can be used with all Mass Bias balls.

The rollrite system does not take into account pin to PAP distance, as well as pin placement, releative to pin height frpm grip center = ie replicating a 3.5 pin to PAP x 4.5 mb to PAP x 3" pin height above midline..  The secondary angle system that was introduced this year at the IBPSIA's advanced proshop training class does this.  It's a couple more steps than the rollrite system, but just as easy to use.  You'll see this referred to as a 50* x 35* layout with a pin to PAP of 4 1/2 for example...

Still a great place to start.

I don't know - "much" about the pin to grip center measurement.  Could anyone brief me?  You know, tell me what you know about it, what distances create certain effects, etc.

In it's basic terms, pin to grip center gives a reference to pin up (above the fingers) pin at fingers, or pin down.  The smaller the distance to the grip center, typically the earlier rolling the drill will be - still based on the pin to pap distance.  The opposite of that, a larger number typically places the pin above the fingers causing the drill/ball to be later or more angular, based on other characteristics of the ball (cover/core/etc.,).  The pin to PAP distance helps dictate flare characteristics as well as core strength.  Remember the basics - pins to the right of midline think of stronger/earlier, and pins down think of earlier/smoother...

Unfortunately while it may look cool, it is not the definitive chart. MoRich (& Track) actually published separate charts for each ball. The factors involved including flare, from RG differential, as well as strength of the core's Mass Bias. The usual other factors, such as PAP, pin position, rev rate, tilt, rotation, etc, are all invovled.

So, there is no one chart or even a set formula, UNLESS you can tap into Mo Pinel's brain, "where no man has gone before".
