I feel myself slowly slipping into the addiction of wanting so many of the new releases. How many balls a year do you buy and do you follow a pattern? Like all in September when the season starts or spread out?
-
I used to feel this way, until I get balls and they are not the "greatest ball ever made" and end up taking up space and a waste of money.
Lately, my ball purchases has been limited to maybe one or two a year. My last purchase was a Snap Lock a few months ago, and prior to that was a Joyride last year.
I think my arsenal is pretty solid, so unless something cracks in half, I just enjoy the hype but don't bite.
-
Use common sense and try to fill slots in an arsenal. If you bowl typical house shots most if the time then your need for many balls should be less.
There are worse addictions though...
-
One a year is the goal, so it usually ends up at two. ;D
Using better cleaners, a NuBall oven, and keeping the surface fresh has mostly eliminated any real need to constantly buy new stuff though. I just like getting something that does different things than what I currently have. Retire one piece, then a couple years later go and buy something similar to what that was. The only real constant is a snow tire at the top.
It's a cyclical model for sure... but I don't mind. :P

I've really slowed down recently, but I used to go nuts at tax time. Last time I went big, I punched 6 at one time. Problem is, I didn't think them thru enough. So half became giveaways. Now, I do 1 or 2, and that's very well thought out.

I got rid of 22 balls and recently sent two ball to a member on here... I don't want to have more than 6 balls besides the spare ball. but I recently found out I have 9!!! 3 over...
But between the hyraod and breeze, I have a gap. I need to fill that gap, but I'm holding back because it'll be 10 balls owned. It's hard to fight that feeling to get NIBs.
Looking at getting the Motiv Venom Cobra

See my current goal is to never have more than 8 to my name. Meaning if I have 7 and there are two I want..something has to go. I think it'll help keep me from waking up one day and wonder where 17 bowling balls came from haha.
I bowl league in houses that differ quite a bit. One is synthetic with medium oil and the other is old wood with a lighter side of medium. I then enjoy jumping in on any local tournaments.

Stop giving in to the hype that the next ball will be better than your last 10 favorites and you will cure your addiction.
-
Most balls today perform the same exact way.
DV8 balls and Motiv balls do for example. Same type of cores.
The thing that makes a diffrence is the layout.
I will stick to the balls I'm using now.
Grudge, Freakshow, Jackal LE (yeah, finally got it), Scandal and spare ball.
Think the Swerve will be the least used from now on. I'm doing quite good with the Grudge at hometurf. And good enough at the other alley we play at with the Freakshow.

I know what kind of weight blocks work well for me. I also know which ones don't. I like the Dream cores just not balls with a pearl cover and that core. I feel like the Night Hawk SE is very close to the X, but I have an X on order because I can cover all but heavy with the Night Hawk. I liked the look of the Pures, but I did not match up extremely well with the Combustion core. On the other hand, I could have put holes in an Unreal and know what I was getting. Drill to fill a gap, buy a spinner and work that thing well. The amount of balls you buy will go down dramatically.
-
The better you get, the less stuff you will drill.

Northface28 nailed it! It is what it is!
I find myself buying fewer and fewer pieces, maybe 1 or 2 a year at best. And as soon as I buy something, some other balls have to go!
-
Owning a spinner may give you more ball range without filling up your bag.
-
The better you get, the less stuff you will drill.
But how much stuff do you WANT to drill is the question!!

This! ^^ lol. I like my equipment and cover most basis and do quite well. I also like new toys and a new ball is always fun.
-
If I got the extra cash,
I'll buy it if I want it & think it will replace a ball down the road that I currently use.
Currently I got quite the NIB stash growing. So I'll drill as needed...no rush.
Since August I have:
Punched a 900 g dream on closeout $79
And a hyroad I got for $100.
However I have bought quite a bit this year :( not including the ones I just drilled, I have stocked 6 more balls. Oh my.
Hoping I don't have to drill anything else....

I feel sorry for you.
I had your problem once, but not anymore.
I stopped believing everything the ballcos were saying quite a while back.
The last brand new ball I bought was in 2009. Everybody keeps telling me it should die.
It doesn't.
A couple of years back, worked out a deal to try out some chinese made balls.
They worked pretty well. Had no problem averaging over 200 with them. 😳
They haven't died either.
House I'm at now is making me throw urethane, because those others are too strong here.
Right now, averaging 205-210 with a 1988 red pearl hammer and a 1991 ebonite nitro.
DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE.
It's how they put your money in their pockets. That's all.
-
Longtime ago I was a "hype" buyer; but I broke that addiction.
However, when I have a ball that has worked for me I will usually buy a second one and store it away for the future. Currently have seven NIB in the closet.
-
It is okay to "want" the latest bowling ball release, but once you have a good 5-6 ball arsenal that will cover every lane condition you need to focus on your game....a new ball will NOT help you.
-
I buy 20-25 a year....i want to try everything and if I ever see it on discount or used I pull the trigger...
-
I also buy another ball if it performs better than anticipated. i believe I have 9 nib all of which are no longer available, except to me!
-
Cmon guys it's just a ball, lol ;D: where's the balldoctor when you need him to resolve this situation???

This is great and your choice. For me, i am looking for ROI on whatever I buy. Whats the utility I get from it? If I spend $200 on a ball, I better make it back in short order in brackets/pots etc.
-
yes im addicited to brunswick tzone and fights with my parents over buying me more
-
At age 25/26 you should be buying your own TZone's.
-
Ignore the people that "feel sorry for you".
For some, bowling balls are tools for making money.
For others, bowling balls are toys for trying new things, new layouts, etc
There's no right or wrong. Enjoy bowling the way YOU want to enjoy bowling.
