Getting addicted...
« on: October 14, 2016, 12:18:12 PM »
I feel myself slowly slipping into the addiction of wanting so many of the new releases. How many balls a year do you buy and do you follow a pattern? Like all in September when the season starts or spread out?

I used to feel this way, until I get balls and they are not the "greatest ball ever made" and end up taking up space and a waste of money.

Lately, my ball purchases has been limited to maybe one or two a year.  My last purchase was a Snap Lock a few months ago, and prior to that was a Joyride last year.

I think my arsenal is pretty solid, so unless something cracks in half, I just enjoy the hype but don't bite.

Use common sense and try to fill slots in an arsenal. If you bowl typical house shots most if the time then your need for many balls should be less.
There are worse addictions though...

One a year is the goal, so it usually ends up at two. ;D

Using better cleaners, a NuBall oven, and keeping the surface fresh has mostly eliminated any real need to constantly buy new stuff though. I just like getting something that does different things than what I currently have. Retire one piece, then a couple years later go and buy something similar to what that was. The only real constant is a snow tire at the top.

It's a cyclical model for sure... but I don't mind.  :P

I've really slowed down recently, but I used to go nuts at tax time. Last time I went big, I punched 6 at one time. Problem is, I didn't think them thru enough. So half became giveaways. Now, I do 1 or 2, and that's very well thought out.

I got rid of 22 balls and recently sent two ball to a member on here... I don't want to have more than 6 balls besides the spare ball. but I recently found out I have 9!!! 3 over...

But between the hyraod and breeze, I have a gap. I need to fill that gap, but I'm holding back because it'll be 10 balls owned. It's hard to fight that feeling to get NIBs.

Looking at getting the Motiv Venom Cobra
Does a round object have sides? I say yes, pizza has triangles..

See my current goal is to never have more than 8 to my name. Meaning if I have 7 and there are two I want..something has to go. I think it'll help keep me from waking up one day and wonder where 17 bowling balls came from haha.

I bowl league in houses that differ quite a bit. One is synthetic with medium oil and the other is old wood with a lighter side of medium. I then enjoy jumping in on any local tournaments.

Stop giving in to the hype that the next ball will be better than your last 10 favorites and you will cure your addiction.

Most balls today perform the same exact way.
DV8 balls and Motiv balls do for example. Same type of cores.
The thing that makes a diffrence is the layout.

I will stick to the balls I'm using now.
Grudge, Freakshow, Jackal LE (yeah, finally got it), Scandal and spare ball.
Think the Swerve will be the least used from now on. I'm doing quite good with the Grudge at hometurf. And good enough at the other alley we play at with the Freakshow.
Most used:
Motiv Venom Shock (14)
DV8 Grudge Hybrid (14)
Hammer Scandal (14)
DV8 Freakshow (14)

Sometimes.
C300 Swerve (14)
Motiv Jackal LE (14)

Retired:
Roto Grip Sinister (13)
Motiv Jackal (14)

Given to a no-thumber in the club:
Brunswick T-zone (13)

Might stick with Motiv from now on.

I know what kind of weight blocks work well for me. I also know which ones don't. I like the Dream cores just not balls with a pearl cover and that core. I feel like the Night Hawk SE is very close to the X, but I have an X on order because I can cover all but heavy with the Night Hawk. I liked the look of the Pures, but I did not match up extremely well with the Combustion core. On the other hand, I could have put holes in an Unreal and know what I was getting. Drill to fill a gap, buy a spinner and work that thing well. The amount of balls you buy will go down dramatically.

Northface28  nailed it! It is what it is!

I find myself buying fewer and fewer pieces, maybe 1 or 2 a year at best. And as soon as I buy something, some other balls have to go!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

Owning a spinner may give you more ball range without filling up your bag.
