Giving Up
« on: February 04, 2005, 03:19:23 PM »
I love bowling but my game is getting worse. I'm sick of it. First few balls I'm dropping it then wham next few I'm lofting it further than Mika. WTF is going on. I don't feel like I'm squeezing and I have tape in the ball. I'll probably work with my old coach again but I don't wanna pay her. OMG!

Have you had your SPAN checked RECENTLY?  Is your thumb CHANGING sizes due to WEATHER or TEMPERATURE changes?

Try a little rosin in the thumb hole when you first start and take some of that tape out.The rosin will allow you to hold on to the ball in the beginning but will wear away quickly so as to allow you a clean release after you warm up.

You don't say if you wear any support or braces. If you do put them on at least 15 minutes before you bowl.Having your grip checked after you've thrown a game or two is a good idea so as to insure a proper fit.

No I haven't had my span checked in about a year. By the third game my thumb swells a tad. No supports or braces.

Sounds to me that once you drop it a few times, you start thinking about hanging on to it, and probably squeeze and hang on too long.  I'd definitely have your span/grip checked - and I wouldn't hesitate to have a different person than who drilled the ball do it.  If it's not the grip/span, then I'd say you're having some serious timing issues.  Take a couple weeks off, and when you lace them up again, forget about it and just do what's comfortable and JTTFB! Good luck, I know it'll be tough as aggravating as this is.

I HOPE you are putting tape in for the FIRST game and then REMOVING it for the third game.  You should NOT just be putting tape in and LEAVING it there if your thumb is CHANGING sizes.  Put tape IN to SNUG it up and THEN remove it when it gets too TIGHT.  Tape is NOT a permanent ITEM.

IF it has been a YEAR since your span was checked, have it done AGAIN, especially if you are a YOUTH and growing.
