« on: July 23, 2009, 04:06:05 AM »
Are  the grits on the valentino pads the same as abralon? Like is a 1000 valentino pad going to give the same out come as a 1000 grit abralon pad? thanks

Yes, but Valentino's pads are supposed to last longer.

Mine do. But i have a Haus Machine too. They seem to last a bit longer. I also like the fact they offer 800 grit.I showed a sample pad to my autobody supply store and they say that have seen it before and will start carrying them soon. I can't remember what there brand name is..

I've tried them and this is what i've found.

they last just a bit longer then abralon. but not a lot longer.
the backing is rough and cant be used to polish like you can with abralon. (havent tried it but just judging from texture I don't think its a good idea LOL)
they are stiffer then abralon is.
they come in various grits unlike mirka's abralon.
same price as abralon IF you are paying full price but not the same if you are getting yours from a site like supergrit

other then that they seem to be the same.

I also have one more question about this, when can you start to  tell if your abralon pads/ valentino pads are starting to wear and don't produce the grit they first did? I have Abralon right now and would just like to know how to be able to tell when to buy new pads. Thanks.

Some possible ways:
1. count how many times you use each, and what you used it for. (Example using one to remove the shine from a ball and to set a base grit level will get more use than just using one in a series of pad to get a ball up to a certain grit level.)
2. Compare how the used one feels to a new one.
3. For 4000 grit, if it's too used it will put a slight shine on the ball. A  new or not used-up one will leave the ball dull.
