going down to a 15# ball
« on: December 03, 2009, 10:43:26 AM »
I know a lot of people are going down to a 15 pound ball and I was thinking of that or going even to a 14 pound ball.

I know most would think a 14 is probably too little but my back is giving me major problems and after three game of throwing a 16 pound ball down the lanes my back kills for at least a day or two!

just looking for some advice,I hurt my back big time about 6 years ago and the pain comes and goes, sometimes I can go 3 games and be fine and then last week by the third game hurt so bad I shot a 141.

richl,

I was having shoulder problems along with the back problems, my doctor suggested that I move down to 15#.  I can now throw three or four games and not hurt for the next 2 days.  Really wish I had made the move last year when I started having the problem.

My father had a 15 pound ball that he was not using and I had new finger tip inserts put in on monday.

My ball speed dropped about 2 mph and I increased my revs quite a bit as well!

I bowled 2 games and the ball felt great and my back did not hurt at all,I can''t wait to try it on league night!

I was always told I needed a 16 pound ball to slow my ball speed down due to me chucking it down the alley at 20 mph and I dropped to this 15 pounder and I can actually take a nice back swing and the ball hooks very well!

I finally figured out that the 16 was too much, maybe at 45 my hand strength isn''t what it used to be?

over the summer i dropped to 15 and glad i did,im 38 and work as a conveyor mechanic and pull some nasty ,hard days. so my hands and wrists are smoked...

i did and still do have a slower ball speed and more revs with the 15.and more accuracy.with todays covers and core being so aggressive,i carry just as strong
if not better than the 16. good luck with it at league,my crystal ball tells me your local pro shop will be light a few 15lb balls
