WII Bowling ..... Help or Hinderence?
« on: December 04, 2009, 11:52:42 AM »
Ever since we got our new 55" LCD/LED TV I have wondered about getting a WII, primarily for bowling. I was curious as to those who have it and use it for bowling "practice" feel it helps or hinders their "real" bowling.

I have only played bowling on WII once, for one game so I do not have an opinion.

Any thoughts?

Years ago my son thought he knew how to drive because he could drive a video game...

Same thing.

However - I like wii bowling leagues. We actually do a bunch of shirts for wii nursing home leagues!

Personally, i don't like WII bowling.

It's not even remotely close to the real thing. And it messes up my backswing!

The Sports Resort version with WiiMotion Plus is a little more accurate in terms of how much hook you put on the ball.  The way I see it, anything that gets people interested in bowling who normally don't bowl is good for the sport.  I wonder if open play linage has improved since the Wii launched.

The game helped my son, who was 6 at the time.  He was having a blast at the game, so I used that enthusiasm to work with him on some things.  I made sure he had good knee bend, follow through in the correct direction, and some coordination of arm and leg motion.  All of this done with very light weight and excitement of the game.

Now, for anyone above first learning to bowl, not much to gain.  My wife is a pretty good bowler who regularly gets beat by my 11-year old who just looks like a retarded giraffe on drugs.  Yeah she's had a 300 on there as well.

I shot my first 300 on the wii brunswick bowling on saturday!

I really don't think it helps my normal bowling but it is a great time in the winter when I can't golf or fly my r/c heli's.

I don't see how it can help that much. Real bowling, you have 15,16 lbs in

your hand, while the wiimote is less than 1 lb. Real bowling, you have to open

your hand and release the ball off your fingers and thumb, in wii bowling, you

have to squeeze the wiimote and let go with just one finger. If you let go of

the wiimote like in real bowling, SOMETHING'S BREAKING!!!

It also throws my timing off as I try to keep in stride with the wii character

on the screen. I love wii bowling, but only during the summer when i'm not

bowling for "real".
