I'll make your pie, and you can put your label on it.
« on: June 05, 2015, 11:10:23 AM »
Help me understand this....

When company A1 uses company B2 to pour their balls, does A1 become very similar to B2 balls in the way of ball motion, durability, and performance?

Will 900 be similar to Storm balls? Or 900 has its own "forumula" and Storm just follows the recipe and "bakes" them.

I remember some companies use other companies just for color function, but I could be wrong.

I've toured inside a plant where balls are made and since then, it just made me curious.

Ball motion? In my opinion, no. When I was on Track staff, Track had stuff that shaped much differently than AMF or Columbia did (back before Ebo bought the Columbia family in 2007).

Today, I still think this is true because I see differences in motion from Radical stuff compared to Brunswick even though Brunswick pours Radical. Same goes for Lane 1 and Global as I see differences but Global pours Lane 1.

However, as for durability and overall performance, I would say they are quite similar. I saw similar issues across all the Columbia families in regards to covers, pour issues, etc, all of which would affect overall performance. The same casting machines are used, same finishing machines, same individuals on the lines, etc.

Further, Phil from Radical and others will state they can add stuff and use different resins than the company that pours for them...so just because they come out of the same factory does not mean they are similar in composition.

Hope this helps,

The only thing different in the Col300, Track and AMF covers in the Columbia Industries days were the names.

I though
The only thing different in the Col300, Track and AMF covers in the Columbia Industries days were the names.

I thought when SA had control of c300 as well as track and amf they were more of a market leader? I was just kid during that time, and really liked their product.  I also felt that Ebonite and Brunswick were were the other top dogs....now its kinda reversed.

I feel 900G has everything to gain and has momentum like motiv to grow...

Motiv caught on originally because they have something unique.  Nothing new and unique in San Antonio.  They may grow a little due to the Storm influence, but you have to have pretty deep pockets to gain any real market share.  Getting Chris Barnes is a start, but the typical pro shop customer barely knows who he is.

San Antonio cannot produce bowling balls with 3 colors is my understanding. Because of that they are using Storms facility.  This is usually only done on high performance bowling balls. Most everything else will be only one or two color mixesmixes and in the lower price points.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

Exactly.  It's a good partnership.  I feel the 900 high end balls, just got higher end!

With so many big on storm/roto as the leaders by your logic does that make them less for sending their product to san antonio?

It gives me a third high line with a Utah cover.

For example...I am notorious for doing great with roto Hp, storm mp/lp...

I don't match well with the crux hookshape...but have done well with everything highend from roto excluding the defiant line.

Needless to say if the crux sticks around (which I hear it is) im going to the dream line 8)

Also I feel the general public is more apt to buy a high end ball knowing storm is involved or if it came from the storm plant.

The auto industry is doing it.

Check out the scion fr-s/subaru br-z same care made by both manufactures...I assume to save $...but a partner ship none the less.

The options I have being a 3rd brand now is similar to when radical got added to the Brunswick line...

From my view, it seems to me bowlers tend to buy balls because someone in their league or the local high average guys are throwning "it". It is true, not too many bowlers know who is who In the PBA.

Some of these guys are warrior fans (nba) and don't even know who the damn coach is!!!!

Thats human nature, my fiancé has no interest in hockey. Until the Blackhawks make the Stanley Cup finals, then, you'd think her and all her friends were season ticket holders and part time scouts. I don't care if the Blackhawks are  playing live in my front yard, I won't watch it.
