Going to plastic and urethane for next year....

So, I got to thinking after watching the Mark Roth plastic ball tourny...

How much of a difference would your average be if you only used Plastic or Urethane.  

So taking that into account, I am seriously considering only using 1 plastic ball and 1 urethane ball for all of next year during league.   And seeing how much of a difference it makes in my average.

I have thought about doing the same thing, and actually probably will. I drilled a gold rhino pro, and was actually surprised by how well it carries.

On most modern THS's, I do believe your average would suffer a good amount (say 15-20 pins).  But, there are patterns out there with bone dry outsides.  I mean it's so dry it's hard to throw a gutter.  There's one house around here that does this, and I always play my plastic up the ditch in practice, and some of the scores I shoot are wild.  If you have that type of pattern, your average may only suffer 10 pins and not 20.  But, I rarely see that  

It's unfortunate, because I love playing the twig, lol.

Another thing to consider is whether or not you'll be willing to stay the course for the entire season. I say that because let's say you come out of the gate struggling with plastic and urethane and then decide to go back to reactives and start smashing 'em. That scenario will likely have your league-mates up in arms calling you a bagger. I've seen that happen before.

Go ahead use your plastic ball all season. You will get crushed by all the other bowlers using resin, and they will thank you, lol.

If you play the lanes correctly, scoring with Urethane is not an issue.  Especially if your local house is on the drier side of medium. Earlier this week, after 6 frames with 3 balls and a few moves with reactive, I decided to go with the Natural.  Had 712 for the night.  No issues with carry.

I have tried to use the Natural for one other night earlier this year and had 205, 225, 245 for 675.  As the shot started to open up, the Natural carried better.  The Urethane will struggle to carry on the fresh shot if there is oilier medium conditions.

Honestly, it''s very tempting but I would not do it for a whole season.  You have an arsenal for a reason.  You select what''s working, not even that night, but that frame.  

But if you decide to do it, good luck!  Let us know how it goes compared to using reactive.  It would be interesting to see the impact a more consistent and readable ball would have on someone''s average, even if carry might suffer on wetter conditions.  It could very well be positive!

I've been using my natural every night for the last 2 months in 2 of my leauges. Plastic in 1 house where the shot and lanes are just beat up. I was struggling with pearl reactives either reading the lanes too early or too late and having issues with pin carry. Felt like I had to be like a robot to repeat shots. Picked up a natural and after about 2 weeks I was able to figure out how and where to use this ball on the lanes. This is the only ball I use on a weekly basis. Unless I find the house shot to be a bit more oilier then normal.

I know guys who have been using true urethane with pancake weight blocks and plastic all season long this year and have been averaging 215+. Seeing what I am right now with the Storm Natural I'm tempted to pick up a Lane#1 XXXL and the AMF urethane ball (said to be fairly aggressive) for my 3 ball line up next season. Time will tell.

I don't see a problem with being able to score with the top dogs doing this.

Well I used a Clear Wolf, back in 97-98??  cuz the house I bowled at was dry, to say the least lol.. And I still averaged mid 180's with said ball, and thats before I really learned how to bowl.  

So using plastic now and urethane wont be a issue for me.
