3 pounds, 10 ounces. The ABC maximum legal weight.

Most houses seem to request the lightest pins they can get when they order new, which is part of why the gold pins seems so different. There are some other subtle differences, but not enough to be significant if you were used to throwing against heavy wood.
We had them on one pair for a regional event in the SE and I preferred the carry on them to the other lanes in teh house. Automatic scorers have to be adjusted when bowling with the gold as opposed to the white pins.

Hmm, i heard it was 3 pounds 8 ounces. But then again I wasnt sure.

I don't know how much they weigh, but I sure like 'em better than most of the pins I bowl against.
They seem to reflect the TRUE hit of the bowling ball. Light hits may or may not carry, high flush leaves a 4, and solid flush actually carries, instead of blowing everything out the back and leaving a 7, 10, or worse yet, both.

Bowling? Of course it's a sport.

In orlando a few months back they had the lumberjack tournament, 3 games with pins that were 4.5 to 5 lbs. I didn't bowl but it was hilarious watching. They ran it over like 6 weeks and for the first 4 weeks high set was 592. 3 guys broke 600, the winner being 642. Some of the leaves were rediculous, righties left crush 7's all day. There was a 4,7,8,9 where the 9 slide up almost to the 3 spot and the 4 slide in front of the 7. Anything light and you were praying not to leave the bucket. I was almost glad i couldn't bowl.

The ABC legal range for pins is 3 pounds, 6 ounces, up to 3 pounds, 10 ounces. However, all of the pins within a given pinsetter are supposed to be within a 1 ounce tolerance window of each other. Most houses spec out 3 pound 6 ounce pins, or more commonly 3 pounds 8 ounces. You can purchase standard pins in the 3 pound 10 ounce value if you want....they are readily available. The decision on the front end regarding the gold pins was to go with the max weight of 3 pounds 10 ounces.
