Gold upgrade on 300 ring
« on: January 20, 2004, 04:47:50 AM »
A friend of mine just had his first 300 game and is obviously thrilled about it.  He was looking into upgrading the ring to gold and asked me what differences there are between the 10k and 14k gold.  He hasn't got the pricing yet, but my initial reaction was to go with the 10k if the price is significantly higher for 14k.  Has anyone upgraded lately?  What are your impressions?

Tell him to be prepared to shell out about $350 bucks or more for the upgrade.. They (the ABC) only give you a $50 credit for the standard ring..

In my opinion, I would get the regular ring and look for a gold one on Ebay. I got one on ebay and had the date and name changed on the inside and saved about $300 bucks from what Keepsake wanted..

They also allow you to break it up into 4 payments if tight money is a factor.

You can also get the regular (free) 300 ring now and upgrade to a gold one at any time. This might give him some time to save up some $$ for the gold one..

There are two different designs in 10k and 14k gold.  One it the original 300 design and they now have the new Eagle 300. You get a $50 rebate but if I remember right the 14k eagle cost me right at $500 and the 10k was around $400 or $425.  They do give you a 30 day exchange or refund.  You can also call 800-982-6515 for more information.

actually, keepsake, the company who provides the rings for the abc, has a no-interest payment plan with a $75 deposit and then five(5) equal payments. if you plan on wearing the gold ring daily as i do get the 10K version----there is less gold than the 14K version but it is harder and is more durable. the actual prices of the rings change almost daily----just as the price of gold does on the market. contact keepsake at 1-800-982-6515.

10k Jewelry is worthless. 14k will hold value much more but still is a long ways from high quality.

He should either take the free one or go up to the 14k. Upgrading to 10k will be a waste of money.

This may be off topic.
When I upgraded my first 300 ring to gold, I have to pay an additional C$185.00 to Customs Canada on top of the upgrade. Needless to say my subsequent rings are not upgraded.

Personally, I usually just take the plaques.  Don't have to worry about sizes that way.

Course after seening what they are bringing on e-bay, may have to reconsider if I'm ever lucky enough to get another one.

Amyhow back to the topic, I would opt for the 10K if I was considering upgrading.  Mainly because of durability.

I recently found out something interesting about the upgrade rings.
When I shot my 800 series a few months ago, I was going to spring for the upgrade - what the heck - how often am I gonna shoot those numbers???

Anyway - while talking with an extremely helpful lady from keepsake, she asked me what size ring I would be ordering. I told her 9. Well, it seems that the NON upgraded rings come in two head sizes to coordinate better with the band sizes. The cutoff for the smaller one is size 9. However, she said that the upgrades only come in one size - BIG - and that I would NOT be happy. She said she thought just about every upgrade that had been ordered in the smaller sizes had been returned.

Sooooo... Have your friend call keepsake for more info before making any decision. They're real helpful!

And congrats to your friend.
