You don't throw hard for a guy your size. What?
« on: January 20, 2004, 12:37:14 AM »
Anyone here ever been told that before. You don't throw hard for a guy your size?  I am 6'2" 255lbs, athletic build.

I mean I am not trying to physically wear myself out when i bowl. At the same time I wouldn't say that I throw soft either.

I have had 3 people tell me that recently at the lanes. They also told me I have good form.

Maybe I am doing something right.

I was thinking of posting the same thing here the other day.  I'm no small guy whatsoever so I figured I should be crankin it.  But I don't.  I just kind of stroke it on an inside line.  But I do kind of expect to see bigger guys throwing with a ton of revs even though I don't hold true to this expectation.  I think the reason why people expect this is because there are a lot of bigger guys who do throw it with a ton of revs and speed.  I know that i expected the same thing.  The only thing I can correlate it to is observation...

I bowl wiht a little old lady, she must be in her 70's. She throws the ball around 11-12 mph when shes got some speed on it. She also averages 198 with a 12 lb. ball.  Speed isn't everything.

im 6'5'' 235lb(23yrs old)...and am one of the slower ball speed bowlers in my highly competative league(out of about 60 bowlers).....give it the right entry angle and it will strike.

btw im the low averager also(163) but i started bowling last season and we won the league and were already in the playoff this season.

it does suck to hear that once every so often..especially from my own teammates!!!!  They say they want to get me to make use of my size to gain more speed and thus pin action

Don't listen to them. The replies are all right. Less is more in bowling, in my opinion.

I rely more on accuracy than power. I use to throw hard and would be wore out by the 4th or 5th game during open play. Now I can bowl 6 games and I feel as if I could go 4 or 5 more.

I couldn't tell you the mph I throw or how many revs.

How does one find that out?

I've seen guys 6 feet/275 throw the ball around 15-16 mph with accuracy and I've also seen (as recently as last Monday) a teammate who is probably 5'8", maybe 140 lbs throw the ball 23 mph as a strike ball when he's angry enough. So to me I'd take the slower speed and watch your scores increase over throwing the ball through the back wall to please other people in your league.
