So,so upset . What would you do?
« on: November 21, 2007, 09:17:43 PM »
I recently found what some may call a once in a bowling lifetime find. A NIB 15# Lane#1 Silver Diamond. I had previously owned an old redrilled one that fell to pieces, I thought it was the best ball Id ever owned. It was that good.

Now I kept it for about 6 months or so not really wanting to drill it but wanting to if you know what I mean. So I find that my drill specs have changed and I now only have 1 ball that fits me properly. So I decide that I need a light oil ball so I decide to drill the Diamond.

I take it to my driller who I didnt buy the ball from as I found it laying around at a different Pro Shop. I asked him to drill it for me so that I can use it on fresh light oil that I see all the time. He drills it up going by the marks shown on the ball. That is the small pin prick CG in the diamond.

Now when he goes to weigh it up after drilling he finds that it has almost 3 OUNCES of thumb weight. He drilled a cavern of a weight hole but couldnt get it back to legal. It also became negative by 5/8th of an ounce. The weight hole and thumb hole took the complete bottom off the diamond. To say I was upset was an understatement. I just wanted to throw it in the bin as the roll on it was awful when I tried to see what it would do. Also with the bottom gone from the diamond it would never be the same.

Now he has taken it back and is going to redrill it. I know it really wasnt his fault that the CG was so far out. It must have been in the thumb hole over 2 inches away. I dont know what to say as I felt so good when I found it, it was like finding gold for the first time. Now I dont care, I dont even care if I get it back. Its made me feel so bad.

I have thought about it constantly for almost 2 weeks and I just wanted to know what you guys thought about it. Has it ever happened to any of you? What would you do?
Thanks for your thoughts.

you should be punching out your ball driller.......It's all his fault!!!

Why didn't he weigh the ball before he drilled it to see what the weights were?

ANY ball driller who takes the marks on the ball for granted should remove the name "pro" from his or her business.  What a firckin hobbiest.  you should be angry distraught and looking for a new place to get you equipment drilled.  How many more of your bowling balls do not meet spec?

mhh...

it really is not the drillers faul imho... but on the other hand I recommend to chech the cg everytime. I tell my driller to do so on the undrilled ball (roughly) to make sure the mark is really the mark

What could you do... the ball can not be or... hardly be replaced and redrilling it seems the only way to save at least what is there.

Let him do his work and see how the ball works... if it works and the pluggins are fine you have at least a working ball. Sad thing it is redrilled... but even then when it works.. who cares?

wish you the best and I feel your pain... a driller filled me a C+ and didn't cut the pluggingd down good and when the ball ran over there it sounded like it bumped down the lane... I was so upset I threw the ball on ebay and forgot about it... btw. the drilling didn't work either

IT IS TOTALLY THE DRILLERS FAULT!!!!!!!

If the idiot with the press had put the ball on the scale before he drilled it and checked he would have easily seen that the weights were off and this would NEVER NEVER NEVER had happened.

no need to shout...

I just gave my oppinion... and I said that I always have the cg chacked... so keep cool..

The bad thing has happened and what is important now is how to proceed.

If I had been the driller, and you had NOT purchased the ball from me, I would have double checked it to make sure I was doing MY part correctly.

Too many times people just take it for granted that the label and punchmark are located correctly.  You would be amazed at how many times they are off by quite a bit......

Unless there is some special reason not to do it, every good driller that I know will always, ALWAYS weigh a ball for total weight and top weight, before even listening to what the bowler wants. The usual line I hear from drillers, both mine and others is something like, "Let's see what you have here." Until the ball is weighed, you don't know how to drill it. Any ball from any factory can have the CG and/or the MB mismarked.

The Silver Diamond is such a rare treasure. Basically I figure your driller owes you about $250.

Sorry about your loss; I hope you can salvage something from this fiasco.
