Teach me how to tape!!
« on: March 10, 2004, 12:23:23 AM »
I have Ron C's Magic magic carpet (love that stuff!!) in all my balls.  The holes are still a little too big in some of them.  My proshop guy told me to only ever use 1 piece of white tape at the front (I think) and fill the rest with black tape to fit.  At the bowling seminar we just kept stuffing white tape in there until it fit (like 6 or 7 pieces)....Does it really matter?

Too much tape can, if im not mistaken, change your thumb pitches. General rule white in front, black in back. Most bowlers I know "fill in the loose space" with tape in the back.

6 or 7 pieces of white tape in the front of your thumbhole would change the span (lengthening it).  I dont know if it would change the pitch, other than it being a side effect of changing the span.

You will find you can save tape if you fold the tape backing into a 1/8" or a little wider width wise and put it between the center of tape and thumb hole. This will give you a more snug feeling that will slightly compress when a little swelling starts. leave about a 1/4 space from the top of the tape and top of paper backing. I do this when 4-5 pieces are needed and have to change out tape alot.

Nollster,

You can put some white tape on the back of your thumb hole, then put in the "magic Carpet" on top of them.

If you find the adhesive is not that great on the "MC", you can buy a roll of "3M General Purpose Carpet tape" to fix it. P/N of 3M tape is 714NA.

This 3M tape does not leave sticky suff on removal and very strong.
