Highest ball speed witnessed?
« on: October 05, 2005, 01:21:26 PM »
What is the fastest you've seen someone throw a ball (as scored by Qubica or similar)?

Last night I watched Rev_O shoot a 10 pin at 29.5 MPH. The pin was run over, then came flying back towards the approach. Ended up about 1/2 way between the foul line and the pin deck. Crazy part is...the ball was set down smooth as any regular delivery.

Jimmy Keeth at 30 mph his usual ...at a 10 pin.

That man is truly over 650 most of the time and has been clockd at over 700 rpm at kegel!

Can you SAY...talent!

I just wanted to say that I hope all of you know that the speed that comes up while you are bowling league is TOTALLY WRONG!!!

The only true way to get ball speed is with a radar gun or with C.A.T.S. I do have some confidence with the new bowlers map if it is used right. But C.A.T.S. is the Best way.

I saw cats data on Jimmy Keeth, he was definaely over 700rpm.

Highest verifiable speed I've heard of was low to mid 30's. But Who knows.

Eugene McCune is no doubt one the fastest out there.  Robert Smith would be my 2nd choice.  I think McCune out throws R. Smith.

Fastest I have seen was a friend of mine at just over 31 mph. My fastest is a manly 18-19 mph.

Anyone trusting the registered speed on the monitor doesn't know the actual speed of the shot.  The in-house systems are generally running a simple mathematical equation that is based upon time it takes to go between two points close to the pindeck.

AMF systems were notorious for reading fast...if they were to be believed, I throw close to 25MPH, which is nowhere close to my speed.

Oh, and as to throwing 10-pin (or any pin) back up the lane, it has nothing to do with speed.  Even me and my little 17MPH shot can bring a pin more than halfway up the lane from time to time (actually did it on back to back corner pin leaves in Temple a few years back- an old guy told me he doubted I could do that again if I tried, so I proved him wrong ).

I totally agree with michelle...I'd never rely on any auto. scoring speed.

Also agree that kickback and pinsetter curtains have more to do with pin rebound than total ball speed.  I've made two 7-10's in AMF houses but nothing on older Brunswicks cuz the AMF backends are more apt to give you more rebound.

I still say of any bowlers I have seen in person Eugene McCune has to be right up there for total ball speed and we are talking  shot after shot not an occasional throw at a 10 pin.

I bowled with a guy (before the days of computerized scoring and speed display) that was a converted duck pin bowler.  This was a BIG guy, body builder type and he threw the ball HARD and straight.  One night he threw the ball at a single pin and missed, but knocked the curtain down behind the pin deck -- no once but twice!  The first time it happened all we heard was the laneman cursing "WTF was that?".  He must have threw the ball 30+ MPH every time.
