Well, for those who were waiting to see the Summer Shootout start at 2pm EDT, that doesn't look like it will happen for the moment.  Wimbledon has the priority right now.

The World Wide Leader is in the business to make money. Look at the sponsors for both events. They aren't about to disrupt W coverage for that boring exhibition of professional bowling. One could make the argument that scheduling should have done a better job - but I will refer back to the topic: bowling. The 4-lettered network could care less. Bowling was just there in case there was a rain delay.

The real story should be the fact the PBA should be ashamed for putting this event out there. Last years show had some different formats with the bowlers bowling against each other for a full game and indoors for a change.

This lame excuse of an event was more fluff and commercials then bowling. Seriously???? A one ball shoot out event???? Somebody put a bullet in the horse and stop the suffering. I'd rather see more womens billiards. At least they stay true to their sport.

So far I would agree. How was that product supposed to win over new viewers? More I think about it, I think espn intended that to be rain delay filler.

The more I think of the bowling the more I think of it as bad advertising for the ball companies.  What it broke down to was this company against that company vs. the other company.  Only problem is they really didn't mention what balls they were using.  Still looks like they are just giving what is left of the PBA something to do.  What do you do with a bunch of ball reps?

Thats what I liked about last years was it was one manufacture against the other with actual bowling. WTF does any one care about seeing some body throw one ball and be done?

Why would the manufactures care to waste the money on that. I'd buy up the commercial time instead where you can actually have 30 secs of bowling or what ever other info you want to put out versus that crap.

This is why some like Lord Field and Motiv declined to get involved.

$25,000 for this crap....

I doubt if the PBA has much say on espn programming. They are beholden to their espn masters. I've also said it before: the PBA needs a new game plan when it comes to TV outlets.

The PBA has always wanted money for any product used.  I know years ago they wanted an unbelievable amount from our company and still we would not have had a chance.  Dexter was the big advertiser.  If I remember it was something like $35,000 a company or line.  Think about how many balls you need to sell at manufactures cost to recover that amount of money. l'd rather give a certain amount of balls away or lower my cost to bowlers rather than pay the PBA for what very limited exposure you get.  Sure they might be able to take it off the taxes but it is still a lot of money up front.
