Bonanza's...legal?
« on: July 15, 2003, 12:06:23 AM »
Question, I have a Bonanza PEarl Pulse, would this ball be legal to use in tournaments and what not? It's my go to ball, and if I can't use it, I will not be happy. Anyone know?

Thanks
Chaz

Chaz,

As far as I know, there is no legality issues pertaining to Bonanza balls.  They share the same rules as any other ball.  As long as there is less than 3 ounces of top weight and less than 1 ounce of thumb, finger, and/or side weight, those balls should be legal.  They have to be legal in order to use them in leagues.  Right?  All you would have to do is take the ball into any pro shop and have them weight it.  Color blems and pin issues are nothing.  It all boils down to the weights.  Hope this answers your question.  Good luck!

That answer sounds good to me, as I have never had a problem using it before. But in the next year I plan to bowl in more tournaments, possibly a regional, so I want to be sure. Thanks!

Chazman819, I used to refer to my blue solid Piranha/C as my "fish ball".  Then when I also wound up with a maroon solid Cuda/C ball, I had a pair of "fish balls".

Check out bowlingballreviews.com for the ball. They list date of ABC approval on their descriptions.

If you are planning to do regionals, check the PBA members site and look at the list of PBA-approved balls.  Its at www.pbamembers.com

They are legal as long as they are drilled to fall within accepted limits.A ball is labeled Bonanza when the ball fails company specs. That could be for color, low or high top weight, pin placement,or nicks. For example I have been using a Throttle-R since May that was labeled Bonanza because it is a lighter gold than they decided on for the final product.
If you have a compentent driller a Bonanza ball is just as good as the name ball at a fraction of the price.

How does one go about acquiring Bonanza equipment?  Being a money-deprived college student, I would imagine this would be a decent way in acquiring some good equipment.

Personal opinion,

There's entirely too much good very lightly used equipment out there to cost justify going with a bonanza.

Understandable, and from time to time I've been very fortunate to get my hands on some lightly used equipment from my very knowledgable driller, I was just curious how people get these Bonanza balls as i've seen alot of them but have no knowledge on how to get them myself.

My driller gets a call from the Mich.distributer when a new batch is released. He goes down and grabs a dozen or so for us guys who want to thow the latest and greatest without paying the big bucks.
Some examples of balls we have used before they were released to the public;Freak,Freak Out,Wow,Wicked(both),Throttle,Throttle-R,Money,Easy Money,MoRich and all the Icons. We pay less than $70 a ball and don't have to hassle with plugging and redrilling a gently used ball.Plus we get the benifit of a new ball surface. To each his own but I prefer hassle free ball experementation.
