Good Storm ball for carry down
« on: November 16, 2003, 09:53:12 AM »
Ok, i am in need of a good ball for carry down, since i seem to have a problem with carry down on one of my leagues.

the bowling balls i do have are these.

X-Factor Reloaded --- Drilled Stacked, for heavy oil
Xfactor #1--  Drilled pin over fingers high topweight, and smooth backend sanded with 800grit
Xfactor #2--  pin under fingers and cg kicked out for a nice backend but controllable left in Box condition
Trauma Recovery-- pin under ring finger, CG under pin, with MB under Pin, and Polished for a very controling backend.
Trauma--pin under ring finger, CG in weak pos, gives good length and smooth turn.
Eraser Boost--drilled similar to XFactor #1 but weaker, yet hooks more lol and dry sanded with 800grit
Eraser--pin under ring finger, CG in weak position,
Blue Thunder---drilled axis leverage

I have plenty of revs, but under a controlled state.  And have slowed my ball speed down to probably 18-20mph,

Seems to me that Xfactor #1 should work,  might want to take out some top weight.  But I would shine x #1 And dull x #2.  This way the cover matches the  layout.  If that doesn't work, the hotwire in box condition would be your best bet.

DLY, you will need a ball that rolls earlier. Maybe a different company's ball. Each company has their own characteristics you know. Storm balls tend to go longer and snap hard, not necessarily good for carry down, especially with your high backswing and speed.

I would try a Buzzsaw, because they roll heavy in they midlane. Their new Golden Nugget sounds real good for the condition you're describing.

Also, the way you're lining up to the carrydown could be a problem. Try moving more left and throwing the ball more right, out past the carrydown to the dry. This should also help. =:^D

DLY

Have you considered the LRG? This ball rolls very early and you can change the coverstock to match you speed.

Well, i talked to my proshop buddy and he took my boost and scuffed up the front and back where the flare crosses, or something? with some 400grit and said it should help with the carry down, and he said that having it scuffed with 800grit as i did last thursday will help too.

And yes, just because i have all those bowling balls doesnt mean i can figure it out. And i dont feel like dragging all of them to one bowling alley, lol.

I mean at first i was using my X-Factor #1 in the league then, when i bought the Trauma Recovery i used that with some good success, and tempted to go back to it.

And when i bought my Blue Thunder, the first night i used it with about 1 game of practice on the ball i shoot 731 with that ball, and its been down hill since then lol.

DLY, personally I don't care how someone scuffs a ball, but it is "illegal" to only scuff a certain portion of the cover, i.e. the back rings only. The ABC states that the whole ball must be scuffed, if you're going to do so. The PBA does have different rules allowing this procedure. =:^D
