Weak cover/strong core recommendation sought
« on: April 05, 2016, 07:02:55 PM »
I'm looking for a ball with plenty of flare, but a mild cover for late block games - prefer symmetric.  Gold Rhino, Cyclone?  Thoughts?

Gold Rhino is a good choice. The cover is not overly strong by any means but the core still has nice numbers. Mine was much weaker than excepted but a great 3rd game ball when there is some friction on the lanes.

There aren't many if at all, at least in my mind. To me the best bet might be finding the Seismic Euphoric TSE or Raging Bull TSE on eBay.

Thank you - I'll look into the Seismic options.  Glad to hear some good things about that pretty gold ball.

I'd probably lean more towards Seismic as a good portion of their line seems to use milder covers with stronger cores.

If I remember correctly the Cyclone is more along the lines of the opposite of what you are looking for. A weaker core with a stronger coverstock.

I could be wrong in terms of actual reaction since I've never thrown one. However, I don't think a core with a 2.53 rg and .053 is considered a weak core.

As one who happens to like balls that are more core dominant rather than the standard weak core stronger covered lite oil and later games balls that most companies make---ok...I know it's a rare find but I will suggest a Track Flare...I have 2 of them drilled differently....the cover is weak by todays standards but the core has a .078 diff.  For Something more findable, try a morich sahara, I have seen them pop up on ebay now and again. a strong assymetrical core on a relatively weaker cover.

I hadn't looked at them in a while. Yeah, that's not a weak core. From what I remember the coverstock was pretty strong too though. Thus the Cyclone being dubbed one of the best "value" balls out there for the performance relative to the cost.

For the purposes of this thread I would recommend the Gold Rhino Pro too. Those sold pretty well in my area and they're not as strong on fresh as I thought they would be, but they're money later on in blocks.

Would the All Night (900 Global) fit here too? I have no idea how strong the coverstock is but the core specs seem like they are up there at least.

Radical Score. Strong Asym core from the original Reax and a mild solid cover than loves surface changes.
