Gotta love old equpment...
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:27:47 PM »
So, my fiance and i bowled a summer ball league several years ago, and she only needed a plastic ball, so i got both of them from the league.  I got a Black Widow, and a Black Widow Pearl.   Loved the BWP, best ball ever for me, in my mind.  Could never find the Black Widow.  Just didn't work for me.

Designated that ball to a never gonna use on the lanes again category a few years ago, and put in the un-heated garage, threw it a few times in the yard when working on my release.

Cleaned it up and took it practicing on Friday... Like the look.  I throw the ball a little differently now than i used to, more speed and revs.

Tonight in my everyother Sunday couples league, I strugged the first half a game, couple splits, managed to throw 3 strikes in the last 4 shots to save a 167.  Then 19 strikes, 2 idiot opens, and a couple unfortunate shots, i save for a 269-236---672.  I think the ball just earned its way back in the bag for a few weeks atleast.

Good bowling!

Ha, ha, LOL! Way to "discover" that old adage that is always true,....it's not the ball.....it's the operator!  ;)

It was the operatorback then.  I wasnt throwing "what the ball wanted".  Not only is it abouthitting your marks, you gotta have a ball that will do what you wanna do to it, and finding what the ball "likes" to do.

Keep drinking the ball companies' kool-aid.  You just switched to full finger tip, right?  I don't get the impression that you have quite cleared the operator aspect of your game from your posts.   BTW, how did you score the Black Widow?  Part of joining a leauge?  Did you take it off the house rack? Not very clear in your last post.

I have been bowling finger tip for 13 years. Been using no inserts for the last 7 (still finger tip), just started converting back to inserts(grips), but my widows still have no grips.

Yes i got both balls by paying my bowling fees to the league, whats wrong with that?

And it was operator error back then.  I swung the ball over 2nd or 3rd arrow at a slow speed, now i throw the ball harder with more hand in the ball.

Anything else i need to address?

It wasn't clear if you got the balls by entering the league or not.  Post was a little murky on the subject.

You seem to think the reactive resin balls of 5-7 years ago aren't any good.  Ball companies want you to think that.  However, Hammer has used the gas mask core in their latest releases.  What does that tell you?

As to the rest of it, I don't care.  By all means, rant on.

Typically what this means is that your center isn't putting out enough oil for the new monster coverstock equipment that's coming out.  Or, your center hasn't changed their patterns in the past 6-7 years so that equipment still works the same as the day you bought it.

While I agree that some centers don't increase their volume of oil from year to year but I've noticed that some of the older equipment can actually out hook the newest gear in the market even with these higher oil volumes. Example, my old Hammer Black Widow Pearl which my buddy has now can still cover just as many boards as my new Storm IQ Pearl just in a smoother way. Some guys are using the Columbia 300 Ti Messenger and still hook that old classic 10-15 boards at will.

So old or new either will get the job done on todays oil even on the tougher patterns.

I think the reason why you thought the other ball you brought out of the dungeon suddenly works for you could be because of the faster ball speed and higher rev rate. When you can match up those 2 things a ball that previously didn't work all of a sudden works! Tilt, and all those other things has an effect too but my guess is just this simple, your skill level and style didn't agree with that ball and layout at the time.

I have to say 1 thing though, I really hope you had that ball resurfaced before you threw it on the lanes! I can't imagine how rough that surface was after you used it as an outside practice ball.

Nobody is talking about man-crushes on Regional PBA members here, so why are you posting?  What exactly are your qualifications to make comments about anything related to equipment questions?

I posted because you took an ignorant stab at ball companies.

And I am highly qualified, thank you.

Oh, okay.  You've proven so far you don't know a thing about bowling, bowling balls, and ball company marketing efforts.  You've also proven you have a weird attraction to part-time sod truck drivers.  What else ya got?

I have an El Nino 2000 (16lbs) that I can play the same line as my Rogue Cell (15lbs), and a Fury (16lbs) that I have to get inside those and the Nano Pearl.
Stop being the problem, and start being part of the solution

That's cause the El Nino 2000 is one of the most awesome balls ever.
