He's a good bowler, OH that's a wall!!!!!

The house I bowl in a lot just USUALLY seems to be a lefty killer.

Not only that but it seems to have very little oil in the midlanes and jumpy backends.

Bowlers who are succeeding are just in general fast of speed!  Then the carry is fantastic.

Being from an area wher both the heads and the midlanes tend to be pretty soupy, I really like that and seem to be able to bowl well on heaviest oil, wetter slop and tougher tournament conditions.

Now my league bowling is lower than ever due to that dryer stuff below.

I stop by the house the other day and then I remember.

SOME lefties CAN tear this shot up.  I watch this good rev, herky jerky, higher speed lefty start out of the box and shoot about 248.  Strikes are anywhere from hitting the 1/2 board at the breakpoint to hitting 13 at the breakpoint!

Pins are a flyin.  I remember back when he shot 767 recently and his Father said should have been an 8!

Then a few weeks after his 767 and we went on a longer flatter shot with no swing area.  I shoot about 610(one of the high scores), he shoots about 408!

But I guarantee you right now this guy beats me all around the league shot by over 25 pins in average this year!

THe other night I hit the pocket 9 times in a row and had one double.
ON this same shot this guy doesn't but have to sneeze at the pocket and the pins jump out of the way.
PPS The other day I went in and the mids were wet and long!!  I averaged near 220, the next day back to the boney midlanes barely 180 while pounding the pocket solid.
PPPS Wall bowling is a talent that not everyone has!  He's got it!

Luckylefty: I agree that wall bowling can be hard for some great bowlers as it doesn't match up very well with their mechanics, release and equipment. I tend to bowler better on extreme shots (reverse blocks, flat shots, heavy oil shots) as it forces me to concentrate and execute better on these conditions. I prefer my tough home house 193 average (mostly reverse block conditions) versus the 218 average I have in my summer league, because it's a super wall and the better wall bowlers are outaveraging me by 15-18 pins on this shot. When I was younger and had more ball speed I loved the walls and super dry shots- but nowadays I seem to score better when there is more oil on the lane...

You nailed it.  Speed seems to be the key.  I don't have a ton of it and can slow down and do it up on a lot of stuff oil.

Yet on these dryer midlanes it just seems that my ball loops too much and burns off energy and then doesn't carry.  It seems like I have a two board area on the wall for striking versus these high speed guys have 10 to 12 boards to strike.

Now I can hit the pocket but it seems to be tough to carry.  Versus these guys almost seem to get more than they deserve every head pin touch, I'm getting hosed all over the place on pocket hits.

As I may have noted, went in the other day when it just seemed easy to keep my speed just a touch higher(midlanes much more oily) and averaging 220 with an open a game was easy!  The greater oil made my ball faster and more energy retaining.

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS to use little enough surface to keep my scores up it seems that I need to use very jumpy pearl stuff and then they don't stay in the pocket like these flame throwers who can use less jumpy dulled infernos and Pro zones!

Frankly I gotta tell ya.  If you are not gonna make a living at it.

I'd almost rather be one of those guys.  800s and 300s with half of the strikes only 1/2 in the pocket look like a lot of fun to me.  I'll take those 300 and 800 rings and not even tell em that 1/2 of the strikes missed my mark by over 4 boards any day!

Saying oh yeah I shot 610 and came in third in the tournament the shot was really tuff.  Sort of like your girlfriend maybe sayin, "yes I had an orgasm, you just didn't notice it!"

Sort of anti climatic so to speak!
