Had fun on the last night of league...went in with one ball
« on: March 20, 2012, 11:20:50 AM »
I took my Lane#1 XXXL to league last night. It was the position round and our team was next to last place. I went in with low expectations and became very surprised. I shot a 653 series with it (192, 246, 215)

This could be my new league ball. First game was difficult in finding a line. I found it in the 9th frame of the first game and I didn't move until 8th frame of the last game. That move was 1 board left with same target on the lane.

WOW! A one board move all night! .

When I have reactive equipment with me, I am usually standing far left playing 3rd and 4th arrow. And usually at the end of the first game, I am trying to reduce the revs on my ball to keep it off the nose. Then I am switching to less aggressive equipment as the night progress.

This plastic ball allowed me to play 2nd arrow. The ball had plenty of punch at the pins. The main difference was getting over the fact that I had to play a high pocket shot. Many times I would throw it thinking, Oh no its going high only to see it drive through the pins.

I really enjoyed the evening.

I had something similar recently.  I went with a sarge easter grip in one ball (Gold Rhino Pro) to see how I would feel after straining my flexor tendon.  I vowed to only throw the one ball to see how I felt at the end of the night.  Walking in with one ball and shoes is very nice and it did draw some questions.  But I made do and found a line and shot 710.  Was one of my better days bowling.  Definitely recommend it to others as a way to free yourself from over-thinking one aspect of the game.

On the flip side, I sometimes take offense to people playing horrible lines with bad equipment choices in league on purpose under the disguise of "trying to work on their game."  I have seen too many people through plastic or urethane most of the season only to bring out better matched equipment when it counted more, such as position rounds or against high placed teams.

I am not a pro-bowler, but I do play one on BallReviews.com

I think that is why I enjoyed it so much.
