greater ozarks open
« on: May 27, 2009, 06:51:02 AM »
Anyone on here been to the Greater Ozarks Open in Springfield, MO.  Just wondering what the conditions were like this year.  We always have fresh for sing/dbls and the backends are usually real strong and team starts out pretty tight then opens up.  Any info is appreciated!

thanks

I was just there 2 weeks ago.  I bowled 2nd squad for singles/doubles.  I started out using my AMF Code, playing about 15 at the arrows out to a breakpoint of around 7-8.  Hit a little carrydown and was having a hard time getting the ball to finish.  Switched to my Track Kinetic Energy at 4000 Abralon, 5 x 3-1/2" pin up and was able to get to the pocket much better.  Missed too many easy spares and shot 590 in singles.  Moved a pair to the right, and this pair was hooking quite a bit more.  Went to my Kinetic, 5 x 4-1/2" pin up, 2000 Abralon and polish.  Was playing 20 out to 7-8 at the break point.  Can't remember my exact scores, but I know I shot 655 in doubles.

Bowled the 8:30 am squad at Sunshine on Sunday morning.  Tough shot with little room for error.  Used my Track Rising SE for all 3 games.  Shot clean 216 to start, then it went down hill.  Started game 2 with 5 consecutive 9-counts and spared them all, then left a Greek Church.  Opened in the 10th frame and shot 166.  Game 3 wasn't much better, shot 179.  I was playing a very small swing shot, from about 14 out to 8.  I think I should have moved inside more and had my breakpoint around 10.  Scores were pretty low on the fresh shot at team.  Hope this helps some.

Chad,

For D/S I had the 5:30pm squad with the heads re-oiled. We caught unlucky pairs because of all the plastic balls from the squad before so I can't be of much help there. But I mostly tried using my insanely weak Avalanche Solid (6.5" x 5" at 4000 abralon + Beans)and just hit the pocket and make spares. Stood about 25 and hit no further out than 12 at the breakpoint and grinded out a -30 for the 6 games.

Team was a whole other story, we spent all of practice with sanded stuff up 5-6(we were on the fresh 8am squad). Everyone I was with said it was hooking a little more than last year. This is still my first year going to adult tournaments so I had nothing to compare it to. Anyway, after practice I pulled out my Wild Ride TE (5.5" x 4" at 4000 abralon)and played 10 at the laydown to 7 and only had to make small moves in all day. Shot 670 something but should have been alot more. If your team can break the pair down correctly, you'll shoot lights out assuming you have the fresh squad.

Bowled last weekend typical shot at enterprise on the fresh 20 and move left. Ob in the usual areas around 6 to 10. Sunshine 671 team on fresh. Typical start at 15 and moved in to about 22. Approaches were on the slippery side. Little bit of ob in the usual area. No 700's there for me this year.

My Brother is bowling singles and doubles tomorrow (31 May) and wanted to know if there is 2 bowlers per lane for a total of 4 bowlers per pair or if there is 4 bowlers per lane for a total of 8 bowlers per pair?

Thank you,

Nicanor,

When I bowled earlier this month, there were 4 people on our pair for doubles/singles.  Hope that helps.

Are you allowed to bowl the Ozarks without a trip to Lamberts

S&D assignments vary with the team split - 2 or 3 / lane. Lambert's is optionable, just watch out for the tour buses!!!!!

No trip to Lambert's, but we did go to the Pony Club.  About all I can say was that the drinks were cheap, but some of those women should NOT be taking off their clothes!

Thank you for the information.  My brother just wanted to guess about what time he would be finished bowling.  I believe he bowls 5 or 5:30.

Thanks again,
