Team USA
« on: August 22, 2008, 02:36:18 AM »
I was just watching a video on bowl.com where they interviewed Chris Barnes and Walter Ray. They showed Walter throwing a USA ball and I was wondering if thats a viz a ball USA or a special made reactive ball for the team. Cheack it out http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=14828&f=7

tommy jones was throwing a black hammer and WRW was throwing a viz a ball because they were bowling on the short pattern on that vid for the tournament squad or w/e because they do a long and short pattern

How is Tommy (an Ebonite staffer) throwing a Hammer ball?

It looked to me that TJ was using a Gamebreaker. Could be wrong though.

Well Hammer is owned by Ebonite, so I don't see that being a problem anyway.

Why is it a big deal?? Patrick Allen is signed with Ebonite and has thrown Hammer quite a few times on tour.(he's thrown BW, BWP, and BV from what I've seen)

That's funny, PA isn't listed as a PBA staff member for either Ebonite or Hammer.  You may not see the big deal but the companies do.  Ebonite International owns several BRANDS including Ebonite, Hammer and others.  While it's all the same ownership, they are not the same brands which each staff member represents.  A small example:  Coca Cola owns both Coke and Minute Maid beverage brands.  While both are beverages (much like bowling balls from different brands) they are hardly the same.

If you are paid to throw the Ebonite brand of bowling balls, that's what you throw.

I believe Walter Ray had a USBC Viz-A-Ball in his hands, while Barnes and Tommy etc, were throwing Urethane Hammers.  The past few years internationally, Urethane balls have looked really really good on the short, as they control downlane direction change really well.  Unfortunately, they are awful hard to find, since they haven't been made in about 15 years now, so I'm sure Ebonite International, has made some sort of accommodations to allow Chris, Tommy, etc. to put the proper balls in their hands as they represent our country.

I can tell you that if Tommy Jones wanted a Urethane ball he would throw one made by Ebonite.  They will get him whatever he needs same thing goes for C300 and Barnes.  PA is not and has not been a staffer for Ebonite.  At one time he was on the Track staff with Wes but that was 2 years ago I believe.  Last Year when he was throwing the Widows he was a Free Agent.  After slowing the video and blowing it up some I would say it is an Ebonite Stinger Urethane that Tommy is throwing.
