Gutterball or Not?
« on: May 26, 2006, 03:14:55 PM »
I was browsing around youtube and found this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZJUBuBwVXM

It's pretty awesome, but would that count as a gutterball or not?

Yeah, I was thinking how the guttercap couldn't have broken on that shot.  Must have been a really light ball.

I know the latest Brunswick cappings are made of plastic that is flexible to allow that (for awhile anyway) but the one in the video isn't that particular capping.

Yes, like billiards, once the ball leaves the playing surface, I am fair;y certain it's a foul/gutter ball - zero for that attempt.

im sure if 200+ pinchasers can stand on those caps the ball woudn't hurt it much, but however the ball would not do that if it were the old style wood caps. I think that is a DEADBALL!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comparison, but can't the ball legally leave the playing surface in pool?  Like when you jump the cue ball (legally) over another ball.

I have seen that shot done better. My friend did it except he lofted the ball onto the other lane without hitting the gutter capping and struck. Too bad there was no video of it.

Yeah, the best I can do is 10 boards into the next lane over.  I can probably do more, but I wouldn't want to cause damage.

Ok, yes, of course. I'm talking about leaving the playing surface and then hitting something else outside the playing surface. I suppose if you could give a ball so much roation that it went 3 feet off and to the left and made it curve in midair like a frisbee and come back onto the table, that TOO would also be legal. Re: the bowling ball, once it hit the gutter cap, it's a dead ball. In pool, if the ball went onto the top of the edge of the table and came back onto the playing surfce, I don't know if that would be legal.
