anyone ever delt with this.. need advise
« on: September 04, 2009, 01:48:16 AM »
the past year my bowling has went to hell i don't look forward to it anymore. i'm going from 215 to 220 avg to 190's and actually satisfied with a 200 game and it makes me want to just quite bowling all together i can go in a practice by myself and bowl games in the 250's with ease but in league 190's to 200's if that. i can be as relaxed as possible and have the best shot in the world and can barely muster a 600 series where as last season at this time i'd be dropping 720-750. to make a long story short i don't feel like i'm throwing the ball any different, haven't changed anything but went back to full span vs sarge grip. would going from a sarge to a full really screw my game up this much its not the reaction only but everything all around in my game is not working i don't know sorry to ramble but i'm ready to throw all my stuff in the trash and walk away.

Making any significant change to your grip or approach CAN have a big impact.

Why did you change from Sarge to regular?

You might not think you're throwing the ball any different, but obviously you are.  It would probably help to go get a few sessions with a good coach, he should be able to get you back on track.  Or maybe switch back to Sarge Easter

When analyzing problems, we look for things that have changed.  You changed your grip, your scores are down.  Now, I'm not saying the change was absolutely the cause, but I'd suggest going back to Sarge Easter on at least one ball and see if the scores come back up.  --  JohnP

the reason i was using the sarge grip to begin with was that my rev rate overpowered my speed do to a shoulder injusry years ago and when i fiannaly go my speed back i decided to try a full span and for a while it worked really well then after a couple weeks my scores started to fall slowly at first with a occasional high set to the point of now where a small 600 is a good night. i have been contemplating going back to the sarge grip but with money tight wasn't sure if that was the problem. i have noticed that latley i dont have the ability to hook the ball as much as when i used the sarge grip casue the ball sometimes rolls out. so i went with milder balls and started to migrate back to the right. I.ve always been able to play multiple shots being up the board or swinging the ditch. but it seems now that it don't matter how many times i hit the pocket there not falling.

well if your not carrying the corners, the different roll on your ball could be the reason. usually sarge increases tilt from what ive seen, which could've gave you the push to stop things from rolling out and just given you better entry. if your hitting pocket but your not carrying, the change in grip and roll could very well be the difference.

Listen everyone in sports including pros get into slumps so why would you be any different. I will admit it is definatly no fun but you have just got to keep on trying. Go back to the basics approach, arm swing, slide all of it and it will come back it just takes time

Robert Smith said that when he was using that grip it changed as axis rotation more than rev rate more forward rotation and less side rotation.  Guess you need to evaluate specifically what parts of your ball reaction is causing your lowing scoring now.  Are you getting more over under than you used to?  Then the change in axis rotation could be a contributing factor.
