Guys and Gals, I need your help......
« on: August 09, 2006, 05:29:42 AM »
Yesterday, the 34th birthday troll reared his ugly head.  My wife, being the great wife she is, totally surprised me and ordered up a Vertex 1/2 hp spinner with foot control (along with 2 dozen Nike One Black golf balls--my fave).

Now, here's where I need the help.  Where do I start?  What pads should I buy?  What polishes should I pick up?  What cleaners are out there?

I don't know if my current ball lineup will help, but here it is:

Ravage, Total Annihilation, Shock and Awe
Absolute, Blazing
One
Zr40, Au79
XCeption 5.0, GP2
Ace, XXXTreme, XXX
Super Carbide Bomb

Your help, as always, would be greatly appreciated.

No, no. You sand them to make them smaller! Less air resistance = longer drives!

Uh I'm sorry but have I missed something here? Why would he want to sand his golf balls? Oh , ok I get it, make them slicker so they'll fly farther, got it now.

That's actually why the dimples are there.  Helps disturb the boundary layer and lowers the drag from behind the ball.

Acetone is illegal for use on equipment used for sanctioned competition.  I don't care if it's a dumb rule, if it's outdated, or if "everybody" does it.  It's illegal.  If that's the case, change it, don't break it.

SH,
I have acetone right next to my spinner.
I use it to clean inserts...get gunk out of the holes.
You can't use it on the ball surface.
I also clean my non-slide heel with acetone.

Since he just got a spinner and DynoJoe mentioned it along with a long list of polishes, cleaners, and sanding pieces, I assumed he intended it for use on the ball's surface.  Silly me.

Cleaning your shoes or inserts with acetone doesn't make it something you get because you just got a spinner for your birthday.  Regardless of whether you keep the bottle next to the spinner or not.

No one would use acetone on the surface of their bowling ball.

Acetone is a carcinogen, so I would be careful using it. It's easily absrobed through the skin, into your body.

My wife bought a gallon of acetone for my 50th birthday, maybe she was trying to do me in?

C.A.B Products work wounderfully, The Aberlon Pads work wounders to. As for polishes, and what not, Storm 1 and 2 work ggreat for finishing sanding jobs, so does Quick Cut. Ebonites polishes are nice to, the Factory Finish, Extender Polish are good for shining, or gaining leangth out of stuff. The Track stuff also works well. I like some of the Storm polishes and cleaners as well. (just a few things that are floating around the good ole spinner)

As for that blue dot, it shouldn't be catching, hit it with factory polish or something along those lines to put some of that shine back on the track of the ball.
