Silly Question: What did I just do?
« on: February 28, 2009, 07:43:37 PM »
Basically once i do my release, I usually drive the ball with both my middle and ring finger, but out of curiosity, I droved the ball with only my middle finger one time. The result was that it read the lane better with more backend at the end than my previous release.  My ball speed didn't change much as well as my revs, so why did my ball behave the way it did?  I went back the next day to see if it was just the lanes but it was still the case, so that rules them out.

Less speed, even one mile an hour, makes a pretty good difference. Also, since you weren't trying to throw with your normal speed or revs, you were more relaxed and the ball came off your hand easier than normal. Hence, more revs and what seemed to be a better shot, and it probably was.
Thing is,your middle finger by itself might not be able to handle the strain of a full league night of bowling and you would more than likely cause an injury to the finger or any of the associated muscles or tendons whch would cause you to miss some bowling.

You played with different finger pressures.

Changing finger pressure between your middle finger and your ring finger will affect the way the ball reacts.

More middle finger pressure will get the ball into an earlier roll, while more ring finger pressure will get the ball to go longer down the lane.
