Not to conest what the OP said, but i was under the impression that bowling balls were made of a "Thermal setting" resin. Once they are poured and cured, they aren't supposed to MELT.
They will become brittle, flake off, and maybe even turn to ash, but I don't think they would MELT and run all over the oven.
Years ago, I threw an old GRAY ANGLE into a burning barrel of trash, but it didn't melt. It just deteriorated into ash as it flaked off the core.
Maybe the guy was baking a plastic ball?
