Dangers of baking balls

HAHA get this, I heard about a guy up here who baked his bowling ball. Went to bed and the next day went to preheat his oven for a pizza. Bowling ball on 425 for 20 minutes. It melted all over the rack and ruined the oven. Tough mistake...

i accidently melted the outer sleeve of my vise ITs within the first month that i got them in the oven ROFL

find a pro shop with a rejuvenator or revivor.....effective and safe.

i just started using hook again system on all of my bowling balls every 90-110 games (around once a month), in my opinion hook again system is better than any oven

Guy I used to bowl with baked an old AMF Pro XS I in his oven, then went out the next night to league and on about the third frame of the first game, throws the ball and nothing comes back. So they call for the lane guy, and he goes down there and comes back with two halves of a Pro XS I.

Funny this came up...  Last week me and a couple other teammates were talking about different ways to get the oil out of the ball...  One guy was talking about using a space heater, the other guy talked about baking and I was talking about the hot water bath.  Well I told the one guy about the dangers of baking a ball and such..  Well this we he comes to me and says I tried the other guys method of the space heater and nothing was happening so he went and put it in the oven and watch as the oil start coming out then crack...  Now he has 2 balls...  I Guess he wont do that again

Not to conest what the OP said, but i was under the impression that bowling balls were made of a "Thermal setting" resin.  Once they are poured and cured, they aren't supposed to MELT.

  They will become brittle, flake off, and maybe even turn to ash, but I don't think they would MELT and run all over the oven.

  Years ago, I threw an old GRAY ANGLE into a burning barrel of trash, but it didn't melt.  It just deteriorated into ash as it flaked off the core.

  Maybe the guy was baking a plastic ball?
