To expand, do you like the term?  I'm having a hard time warming up to it myself.  But then, I'm the guy that never took to "slapping out" a shot either.

I like the phrase. It's catchy.
My 6-yr. old even says it when we're bowling in (the parent/child) league together.
Hambone is not negative in any way, so I see no problem with it. Also, there doesn't seem to be anything else to call a 4-bagger that sounds good.

To be honest a hambone is a double. I even have like four hambone patches from youth league. Its a double not a four bagger.
--------------------
In the bag:
16lb. Pearl Cherry C/2 (808 series)
16lb. Pink Rasberry
15lb. Pro Purple (804 series)
15lb. Enriched Uranium
15lb. Cobalt Pearl
15lb. G-Force
15lb. Super Carbide Bomb
15lb. Crystal Diamond

People that hardly watch bowling know what it is now, that is a good thing, anything that brings interest in a positive manner to bowling is good for the game/sport, depending on your view.

Tell that to Rob Stone

Buzzsaw is correct.
I'm not overly crazy about it, but the bottom line is this...
Rob Stone has created a bit of a buzz with this.  I know he's not the most loved guy to do commentary, but I think he's onto something.  As previous noted in this thread, there are people who hardly watch it that know what it is.  This may be what the tour needs...a little creativity.

I think they are changing the original double/hambone patch to be a four bagger/hambone patch. I hear a lot of mixed feeling about it and I've been bowling since the 60's and I could care less as long as it bring attention and interest to the sport! This is just my $.02, Bruce

Sad that youth bowling gives patches for doubles nowadays.

how did we get turkey for 3 in a row??

The term "turkey" came about back in the early 1900's when bowling was just getting up and going.

The owners of the bowling alleys would give a free live turkey to anyone that could get 3 strikes in a row.

Over the years it just caught on

I think Hambone is silly but if I get four strikes in a row, that's good, so who cares what Rob Stone calls it.
