One of League Bowling's problem....HANDICAP....

High average bowlers versus low average bowlers.

The high average bowler always complaining about giving too many pins away. Gets upset when they beat a team scratch and lose based on handicap. They are the better bowlers therefore should always win. They work at their game, and spend alot of money buying the latest equipment. Why should they lose to someone whole bowls once a week.

The low average bowler's side is about not getting enough pins. They are in leagues where the handicap is set at 80% of 200. There are several teams in this league where all bowlers average over 210. Most nights these low average teams get destroyed by the teams with big averages. Somehow they do finally get it together as a team for one or two nights out the season only to be called sandbaggers, even though they are in next to last place in the standings.

Is there a solution?

The gap is too big between the bowlers now. Twenty years ago the difference would be 20 - 60 pins, now its like 80 - 120. Its very hard to keep these two types of teams together in the same league. If the rules seem to favor one group the other group quits or complain the entire season. And it just goes on and on.

Should the USBC set a standard for everyone?

Is it just getting some to understand simple math?

I think this topic is debated more in leagues than anything else.
