What I fail to understand is do you view brackets as gambling as:
a) gambling - a chance to compete in a mini tournament
b) investment - Might make a profit/might break even/might lose
c) guaranteed income
In HDCP - there is no way I can think of for the "same" bowler to shoot 256 and continue to get 64 pins each week. The following week his average has to increase and his HDCP has to decrease.
I run HDCP brackets (and scratch) on my weekly league. Now, 3 weeks ago, 1 bowler shoots 720 off his 185 average and sweeps the 5 HDCP brackets that night. Yep, that night, he was pretty much unbeatable. And you know what. In the 3 weeks since, then, he has entered every HDCP bracket, and lost.
I think a lot of bowlers view brackets as option C above instead of option A & B which is their right. But over the long haul of a season, instead of one night, it balances out.
