Handicap question
« on: May 11, 2004, 06:57:26 PM »
I just entered my first league last night and the handicap is 90% of 200.  What exactly does that mean in reference to my average?  Last night, I average 188.  Does that mean I am bowling with no handicap since 90% of 200 is 180?  My girlfriend averaged 121, so does that mean she gets a 59 pin handicap?  Just trying to understand this handicap thing a little better.  Thanks for any help.

What ever your avg is, in this case 188, its 200-188, which equals 12, then its 90% of 12, so you handicap is 1

jaf--If your league is using 90% off 200, then you subtract your ave--188 from 200 which is 12 pins and then take 90% of 12 and you will get 10.8 pins or rounded off will give you 11 pins.

Sorry actually Im incorrect

I maybe wrong .. I don't think ROUNDING is used when determing HANDICAP .. I don't have anything in front of me .. but from memory .. I think all fractions are DROPPED!

You know what your right to isn't stupid how such a simple thing such as handicap can have such a complex solution.

In most CENTERS it ISN'T too complex .. in fact it's simplified because the RECAP SHEETS usually have a CHART on the back DEFINING exactly what the handicap will be for 70%/80%/90%  .. once you determine the DIFFERENCE between the averages you reference the CHART to determine actual HANDICAP!

I've seen these RECAP sheets used in MOST centers that I've bowled!

Nope, just yell them all, much more effective and less work on the shift or caps locks keys.

I know Joe said "most centers," but it depends on where the recap sheets come from.  Most leagues in my area aren't house leagues and an individual does the work of secretary and provides recaps printed on a home computer with whatever version of secretary software the person is using.

I gave each captain a handicrap chart in their packet to start the year with along with the rule book and sanction applications, but it didn't take more than ten minutes for the captains to ask me how to figure out handicrap anyway.

I won't miss that job at all this next season!
