Practice sessions

Do you think practice sessions go better for you alone or with other people bowling with you so that you can watch each other's game? I've always been curious about this as I know if you bowl alone you may bowl at a faster pace than in normal league/tournament competition. When I was growing up I used to have a couple of bowling friends where we would pack up the car, go open bowling at a couple of different houses in the area and try to help each other out during our practice sessions.

Also, what do you plan on working on in your game over the course of the summer/ next season? For me, I need to work on throwing the ball slower for a strike shot and I also want to work on playing a deeper inside line (5th and 6th arrow) for when that is necessary at certain tournaments...

I like to bowl with one or two other people.  More than that and it gets to be competition.  It's easier to keep a normal pace with a few people.  I tend to throw too fast when I'm by myself.  I find myself getting fast feet or rushing the line, and that throws off my mechanics.  Plus I can tell the other(s) what I'm working on and get feedback on how well I'm doing.  I can return the favor and watch what they are doing.

I think praticing with others is better, however you need all need to be taking you practise seriouly.

And Im planning on changing to a 5 step, just to see what happens

An interesting question and I'm struggling to respond.

A few years back I was in a tournament and had completed two terrible games. I felt I was throwing the ball exactly as I wanted too and hitting just the place I expected too with BAD results. One of the participants stepped over and whispered in my ear .. trying lofting the ball .. finished with a fantastic game.

There have been other times where I've practiced with someone and he made some observations about my bowling. I proceeded to try and REPAIR the problem and before the session was over I was so MESSED UP I didn't know if I was coming or going!

Then there is ME .. I feel I can tell when the ball is going where I want it .. if I hit the pocket once I feel I can tell the difference when it leaves my hand as to whether or not it's going to be close.

I think I'd prefer practice by myself .. however when someone gives advise .. I'll measure there advise as to HEED it or HEAVE it!

MSC2471 -- I prefer to practice with someone, because I bowl too quickly when I practice by myself.  What I really like to do is practice with one or more others and have matches where we are required to play away from the THS area.  For example, play outside the first arrow or inside the third or fourth arrow.  This helps with accuracy, you get to shoot a lot more spares, and is fun competition to boot.  --  JohnP
