Who Makes?

Ihave got to try a lot of balls on the market and recently very happy with the Labyrinth from Morich.

I am looking for suggestions for a medium oil ball that I can use to open up a lane.

The characteristics that I am looking for are that he ball hooks throughout most of the lane and only rolls in about the last 10 feet.  Some of these balls I have thrown recently just want to roll heavy and I don't like that look.

What are your suggestions.

Are you talking about something that wouldn't hook so much, but still be able to make a burn spot on the OB at Cloverleaf?

Doc,

Your question seems to have some conflicting requirements. Balls that traditionally open up a lane are ones that hook a lot overall and generally have a skid/flip quality. Usually, from most topics about such balls, they are used when there's no out of bounds and no wet/dry condition and no handspots.

Also your statement that a ball "rolling heavy" vs ones that "only roll in the last 10 feet" confise me. Some balls have more of a curve (V2 sanded, Power CHarge - note they are sanded solids) and some have more of a skid/flip (X-factor, Inferno - note they are polished pearls. Polished pearls are usually used to open up a lane.

Please clarify what you want.

Medium oil solids such as the old, discontinued Beast should satisfy your apparent conditions, if I transalted what you want correctly. Most solids these days are for Medium to medium heavy oil patterns. Many pearls cover medium to medium-light oil.

Jeremy - No specific house required.

Charlest - Some balls get into a roll very quickly like the Freak I was just trying.  What I was seeing on the lanes is that the ball has more of a skid-roll appearance on the lane where as some others skid longer and then hook rapidly at the end silver streak pearl/retro blue roto.  I was wondering if there are a few balls out there that have a fair amont of skid at least to the arrows and then a longer hook reaction and then the roll.

The labyrinth that I was throwing is really close to what I am looking for.  I was just seeing if there are other balls out there with characteristics like this.  

I don't see what was so confusing about my question.  We often look for skid-hook-roll when we bowl.  Balls on the market often have varying amount of these aspects.  Some have longer skid tendencies and some have hook tendencies and some have roll tendencies.

I am looking for something with longer hook tendencies without the early roll.  My main reason for this is that I have a low axis tilt so getting a ball to roll is not a problem. I know that drill patterns make a difference and I have tried just about every type of drill pattern out there so I know what drilling patterns can do for my game.

I want to know if there are balls that people have thrown that have the characteristics that I am looking for.

Doc,

If you like the Labrynth, the try the Hercules, which arcs gently throughout the entire lane, not a heavy rolling ball but a great ball for upper mediums.

I like the Bruiser drill to roll early.  It skid, read and rolls for me like nothing I have ever had.  You could try the Smash/r, basically the same ball with a sanded box finish or just sand the Bruiser.

Doc,

The problem, the confusing was one of relativity. You didn't say whatth eoil pattern & amount was and which balls with which drillings were rolling too early. For instance, the Labyrinth for most people and most drillings is a very early rolling ball. So for it to be close to what you want/need, you must have polished it a good deal. If you have a low axis tilt and not a lot of rotation upon delivery, most balls are going to roll early for you.

You need less surface than average or more oil than average to get that length. I do also.

It's a balancing act.
The relativity equation is something you need to judge: speed + low axis tilt = what surface at what level of polish or grit, with what core and what drilling in order give you enough skid and enough roll. Oftimes, a little polish is all that is needed.

One suggestion:
As a counterpart to the Labyrinth, Morich developed the Minotaur, for almost exactly what you are asking: more length with strong backend. With a stronger cover than the Laby, the Minotaur's core was designed to give more length with the same drilling. FYI its length is amazing given its cover.

Other suggestions:
I also get length for similar problems, as my tilt is simialr to yours, from several balls with Columbia's SuperFlex solid cover over medium RG balls in the 2.50 - 2.55 range (DynoThane Concept XXtra is great for this, but all but impossible to get; AMF Hawk, with slight polish is great medium ball; some are still available on EBay)
and solid resins using Storm's Accu-Tread cover. Hot WIre is great medium ball, with length and backend, for a solid. Great match of cover and core.
AZO's light load solids all get superior length and most are for medium oil amounts, even with strong drillings. The Blue Fire will definitely meet your requirement.
I suspect the new RG Apocalypse will also serve your purpose, but I have no experience with it personally.
The original Wicked will do this; the Wicked B/R/T may need a l=slight application of polish.
