Thumping
« on: November 25, 2008, 10:38:21 AM »
Hi, my name is Steve and I have a problem.

I started thumping the thumb from the release all the way down the lane to the pins.  Ball never makes a transition at any point, just goes dead straight with a very noticable "dudududududududud!"  I am known for putting a large amount of hand in the ball, and I've even covered almost the entire ball with flare rings.  However, I now have a single line of flare going straight through the thumb, never flaring at all.

The ball is a Storm Spitfire, drilled 4.5x3.5 with a balance hole at 45º from grip center on the VAL.

What can I do?

Hi Steve... *group hug*

I had the same problem too.  Actually, I still do when I play an extreme outside line.

It's hard to explain but the PSG (pro shop guy) told me that I'm not staying behind the ball and I'm not rotating my hand properly.  He said it looks like I'm trying to pull start a lawn mower.  Basically, I'm not rotating my hand ala shaking hands with the pins.  I'm rotating my arm to the right which sets the ball down right on the thumb hole giving me that THUMP THUMP THUMP.

I saw the video of me doing it, among other things I need to work on, and I'm working on correcting it.
