Hardest Feat to accomplish in bowling
« on: May 13, 2010, 02:50:44 AM »
Out of these five feats (not including 900 series) which do you think is the hardest to accomplish:

1) 300 game
2) 800 series
3) convert 7-10 split
4) Average 230+ on a house shot
5) Average 210+ on a sport shot
--------------------
High Game: 300 (11/3/07)
High Series: 798 (2/9/08)

210 on a sport shot
800 series
230 on a house shot
300 game
7-10 split

Why is the 7-10 last?  Why is it the easiest?  Because there's no "skill" involved in picking it up.  Same with the Big-4.  Same with a hole-in-one.  It's all luck.  Grandma can make a 7-10 split, 110-average bowlers can make a 7-10 split.  But they can't shoot 300, and they certainly aren't going to shoot 800.

Why do the pros typically have so many Big-4s and 7-10s compared to the rest of us?  Well, if nothing else, because they have more opportunity to make it.  If a full-time pro bowls only 1000 games in a year, I'd be surprised.  Between practice and tournaments, it's probably more like 2000.  Go bowl 2000 games a year (about 6 games a day) and see how many 7-10s you leave and have the opportunity to make.

7-10. In my house it's only been made 5 times and the house is 50 years old.

+1...This is pretty much exactly what I was about to say. I am surprised that so many of you picked the 7-10 as the hardest. Converting it is pure luck.

I agree too. I am wondering why shooting 900 isn't on the list? It has become something that happens a few times a year these days so....why not me?

292 and a 7-10 pickup are not "hard"...just rare.

The most difficult, in my opinion, is the 800 series, followed closely by a person's first 300 game.  I've been told that subsequent 300 games aren't nearly as difficult as the first...I sure as hack wouldn't know.

I would have to say the 800 series. I have done #1 and converted the 7-10 2 times in a 3 week span. And with my game I am happy to go clean for a game. I have so much more to learn about this game starting with repeating the same shot over.

Out of your choices, I would say 7-10. One choice you didn't mention is scoring a 292, which I believe is harder than any of your choices.

Surprised to see a dutch 200 or a clean series isn't up there. Of the choices I'd say 800 is the toughest, followed by 4 and 5 about equal. A clean series is probably harder than all of those, level with a dutch 200.

I think a lot of you guys are confusing difficulty with infrequency.  There aren't a lot of 292s but given how many opportunities there are for them, if the bowling community made a concerted effort to get them, they'd be pretty frequent.  Certainly it's more difficult to shoot 292 than 293, but that's only because a 2-count is harder to get than a 3-count.  But the overwhelming majority of people in a position to shoot 292 aren't trying to shoot 292.  If they were, you'd see them much more frequently and no one would say they're any more difficult than any other 29x game.

Dutch 200 and a clean series are not as hard as an 800 series. Hell, most 800 series are clean so...And a dutch 200 would be very easy for most high end bowlers if they were trying to shoot one.

I think #5 is the toughest.. That to me takes some skill.

I also think shooting a 300 is easier than shooting an 800..

Picking up the 7-10 is 90% luck..
