Title: Has anybody changed style to not slide?
Post by: johns811 on November 20, 2014, 07:22:18 PM
I have so much trouble going from wood approaches to synthetic, and major issues with timing I was wondering if anybody gave up on sliding and just converted to stop and throw. I can change my shoes to not slide if I want to.

I wouldn't I know a lot of people who just plant and they end up with knee problems from all the force pushing down.

+ 1; you are asking for major knee problems down the road if you attempt to abruptly stop and plant your sliding foot. I have a touch of arthritis in both knees. I can tell you that sliding makes my left knee ache a pretty fair amount. I cannot imagine how the knee would feel if I stopped and planted it before releasing the ball.

i never done it but i also wonder if it would improve my game if i just gave up sliding(slipping or sticking) by changing out the s6 soles to go like s2.

I was forced into planting and not sliding! At 57 years of age a disability hit, and all of a sudden a long (12") slide went into ZERO. I almost face planted on the lane the first time I returned. I am also a former Jr A hockey player, and former professional referee in hockey, so my knees are not in great shape to start with.

It has taken over 2 years to begin to regain my prior game, from the approach, to timing, to release. My speed went up, my revs increased immensely, but accuracy was gone...all over the place due to timing. I had several top coaches help, but still it took over 2 years, and I am still 15-20 pins under my former averages.

Pain, yes sir, very much so especially the following morning. But I knew I would need a knee replacement soon. So for the love of the game I continue.

Would I advise anyone to willingly go to planting? NO! Try every imaginable sole, slide socks, whatever there is. I did, even a Dexter 10 sole cut and added as my heel.
