Returning to the game???
« on: August 01, 2004, 01:26:00 AM »
Hey,
I've taken the last year and a half off. Well, I'm feeling ready to get back into things. I'm wanting to get some new equipment, but I'm obviously out of date with the new stuff. If anyone could help me, I would be very appreciative. What I'm looking for are balls similar to ones that I've been successful in the past. Mainly: Storm Tour Power, Blueberry Buzzsaw, Storm X Factor, and Ebonite Vortex II, Pearl Pulse, El Nino 2000. Without trying to find a NIB one of these can you recommend something current that will be most like one of the above? Also, I'm in a new town and the center seems to be on the medium to drier side than where I'm from.  Some of you "oldies" may remember mefrom way back.
I've been practicing this summer trying to get the timing back, and so far, I'm happy with my progress. After reading the list of balls that I like , it seems that I really scored well with "control" type balls and not so much the latest and greatest hook monsters. Again any insight will be helpful.
Thanks in advance
Brian Lane

If you're looking for a mild reacting control ball, I would highly reccommend The Hero from a new company called Circle Athletics.  It's very predictable and hits extremely well, and doesn't cost that much either!

The entire Throttle line by Columbia is fairly predictable, and they hook a lot.  I found the Full Throttle to be my favorite of the bunch.  The Columbia Hyde is more of a sharp angle ball, but was a great all purpose ball.

It's always nice to have a skid/flip ball, and I would recommend a Visionary Red Executioner or Visionary Green Gargoyle.  The Gargoyle is more for drier lanes, so you might like that.

The Roto Grip Sonic line covers everything you need for drier lanes.  Again, a great all purpose bowling ball was the Silver Streak (black ball).  If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Retro Resurrection is a smooth reacting bowling ball.  You can't go wrong with Roto Grip.

NO tech advice
BUT I sure wish I were going to be on your team!!!
Bet your team does great the second half!!
You won't be sandbagging but I now by second half your game will be right on!!!

I didn't bowl for about 4 years, was very rusty. Bowled a 98 ave. the first night. I improved each week, over ave. almost every game. I wasn't sandbagging.
Took me that long to get my game back.
We got first place that summer.
