All I remember is the ball slipped as I was putting my foot
down on the way of my release,I also noticed my body was
20 degrees turned thw wrong way.

BAD,BAD,release!

Thats my question,Has Any of YOU,ya YOU,the one reading this
topic,I wanna hear some stories about ankle shooting with a
round object.

I cant be the only one on BR whos dones this
goofball release boo boo.

It still hurts, one good thing for now,the swelling
has gone down and the gash is healing as well.

Who's next!!

I do it on occasion, and what's worse is I've even done it two shots in a row.
Just hurt a bunch, but never affected my ability to bowl/walk.  Really didn't even leave much of a bruise either.

I saw this Mexican Pro (female) and she wore ankle weights when she bowled. I asked her why she did it, and she said because she had hit her ankle with the ball a couple times before. These were for "protection" in case it happened again.

In my early years in adult leagues(mid-late 80's) I used to bang one off my ankle at least once a month. I haven't hit(I mean REALLY HIT) my ankle in quite some time. I do, however, manage to graze it several times a year, and I also catch my pantleg, right by the ankle, several more times a year. I guess I'm coming about as close to my ankle as I want to get.

Did it one time, REAL bad.  That was enough.  I may chicken wing the hell out of the ball now, but I can walk pain free.

Can't say I've ever managed to bang one off my ankle, but that's probably because when I mess up my swing I bang the ball off my leg as I take it back after the pushaway. I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that though

I use to regularly hit my ankle (at least once a night).  Sometimes hard and sometimes it was a graze.  One night I went down to the lanes early to practice before league and hit it harder then I've ever hit it.  The ball never made it past the arrows and I was lightly bleeding through my sock.  Well I quit practicing and had a nice golf ball sized lump by the time league started.  I didn't have any problems and was bowling great (2 games in the 250's) then in the 3rd frame of the last game I smashed it again and couldn't hardly walk.  I couldn't finish the last game because now I had a grapefruit sized bruise on the ankle which jiggled when I walked and hurt like an s.o.b.  The swelling and pain didn't go away after a week so I went to dr. and got it x-rayed.  I had chipped the bone and did some other damage.  Had to have surgery but I still have problems with it every now and again.  What's weird is that I have no feeling within 3 inches of my ankle and when I do occasionally hit it...it doesn't hurt or swell.

Oh man I feel your pain!!!  Last week of summer league, last game, last frame as a matter of fact and........BAM right on the button!!!!  I squealed like a stuck pig!!!  Thought I broke my ankle!!!!  I walked with a limp for 3 days, couldn't wear my new boots to work could only wear low-top tennis shoes.

And heres the kicker, thought I learned my lesson....NOPE first practice ball of fall season and WHAM did it again, but luckily it was more a graze instead of dead on.

Needless to say I corrected my timing issue real quick!!!!!

Funny you mention that.  I've grazed my ankle several times lately.  Two Monday's ago I caught it pretty good.  Hard enough to send it to the ditch pretty quick, but not bad enough to where I couldn't go on.  Last Monday I grazed it again.  For whatever reason, I'm only doing it at the one house.

I went on a spell one year when I was first learning the game where I hit it 5 or 6 times in a 1 year period.  Subconsciously I began twisting my slide foot toe inward to move my ankle out - actually didn't realize I was doing this until about 3 years ago.  Trying to straighten it back out now (obviously because it puts pressure on my knee and throws my alignment at the line all out of whack), but it's hard to break old habits...

I better not jinx myself by responding to this thread

I've banged my ankle SEVERAL times with the ball.  The last time the ball made a quick right turn into the ditch.  I was black and blue for about six months.  It was a nice, deep bone bruise.  It's NOT fun!

I have grazed my ankle a few times during this past summer and now fall, but as long as I just feel the ball brush by I'm okay.  I just don't want to wind up limping my way through three games

Oh I've done it countless times. I think its because I always turn my slide foot's toe in, and when I try to straighten it out, thats when I hit my ankle. Well, I kinda of have a kankle but still, you get the point lol!

OK, So I'm reading this post yesterday, and think to myself "wow I haven't done that in years."  Then promptly go to my normal league last night, and what do you think happens?  Yup, 1st frame third game I go and bounce the freakin' ball off my ankle!  I just can't believe it.
