Has anyone else had this happen
« on: March 01, 2005, 02:08:38 PM »
Hello all,

Tonight I threw my Red Alert Plus that I got in a trade.  It has a nice reaction but about the last 8-10 feet the axis mirgrated to the finger holes.  In other words it looked like my finder holes were my pap.  My track was under my thumb hole horizontally.  I first thought it was how I was releasing the ball be I pulled out my TPC Shooter and it did not do that.  Has anyone esle seen this?  Also it there a way to fix it (if it is even a problem)

Yes i had a defective big bully they gave me a new one because track was above my fingers and circled whole ball. Funny thing is cg weighed up correct but ball was a 60 foot dart it would have made an interesting spare ball

I really have never heard of this from the description your giving, but maybe it is flaring so much that it is doing this to the ball?

I'm thinking about this intuitively, and if the bowtie is low enough, this could happen if you are getting reverse flare. I know its rare for a release/drill to create reverse flare, but thats the only thing that makes sense to me at this point.

Well again it does'nt do it until like the last 10 feet.  The ball is drilled lable.  It still gets a pretty good reaction.  If I can get a hold of a video cam I will record it and show what I am talking about.

I had a Synergy ETS that did that, but mine had a rather exotic drill.  CG just above the fingers on the center line, (Ball had a 2 inch pin) Pin was above the ring finger and a weight hole beyond that.  Ball had one of most wicked backend reactions I ever saw.  At about 50 feet, i could see the finger grips on the axis.  The ball did exactly what I wanted so I never questioned it.  So if your new ball is reacting the way you want, then I see no need to change it.

And unless I'm mistaken about what reverse flare is, what you are describing is not it.  My understanding was reverse flare would make the ball flare towards your Negative Axis Point.  (I don't think I'm wrong, but if I am could someone please explain the concept of reverse flare?)  The drill you have on this ball just puts the bowtie in a different spot so the fingers do the migrating, not the thumbhole.

I once had a Forest Fire Storm, drilled label.  The axis on that would migrate to the middle of the grip; you could see the finger and thumb holes rotate around the axis at about 45 feet.  Ball hit like a sack of tomatoes.
