There must be someone in some point of time that was dumb enough to try it. If I was really bored and had money to waste I'd let you know what happened. Hell, I'd video tape it, set on 100% for 20 minutes and put it on Youtube.com
-
Haha, I would like to know what happens myself, keep us updated lol.

This has Mythbusters written all over it!
They can microwave a ball.
Put a ball in the oven at 200 degrees.
Put a ball in the oven at 150 degrees.
Take turns alternating putting a ball in a bucket of hot water and a bucket of ice water.
We can find out exactly what will damage a ball and what won't!

I can't imagine much happening unless the ball was soaked with water or oil

im only doing it for 3-5 minutes. I put popcorn in for 10 minutes and walked away and burned it up and blew out the microwave, house was stinking for days. My guess is ill probably see oil come out and the microwave should be ok as long as there is no metals in the ball,
Unless it melts the coverstock.

You would just put the microwave in a padded room and the camera on a tripod, then leave.
I think whoever tries this should be put in a padded room.

I kid you not, a guy on my Tuesday league tried this with a Hammer Blade. It cracked of course. It was under warranty so he stuck the proshop for a new ball.

Just set it and forget it!

I think it will all depend upon how old the ball is and how much oil has soaked into the coverstock.
A microwave works by passing microwave radiation with a large wavelength through the inner chamber. Usually anything (food) that would be put into a microwave would have water of fat inside. These molecules are electric dipoles that will constantly rotate(to try to align with the alternating electric field created by the waves)...this spinning is what creates the heat that you are accustomed to from a microwave oven.
Unless the materials in a bowling ball conduct electricity (which I'm not sure of) I don't think you will see much of a reaction
now if there is a lot of oil in the coverstock...

Make sure you put in on a microwave safe plate so you can see how much oil it collects!!

Depending where you live, you may want to just use an extension cord and try this outside. If anything were to happen you really wouldn't want that kind of mess indoors. Just my 2 cents, keep the change.

Interesting. In theory it should probably heat the oil trapped in the ball without really heating the solid materials. Worst case is that you boil the oil or other moisture in the ball and it cracks from not being able to expand fast enough.
-
If it wasn't 20 degrees outside, I would haul our microwave outside, plug in an extension cored, and give it a try. WTF...I need a new microwave anyhow since the digital display is junk, right?! I bet if the ball had some oil in it, the coverstock would crack, and then melt. Maybe I could drill a hole to the center and drop a little bit of ice in the hole. Then fill with ball plug. That just might make the bomb we are looking for, since the ice will melt and give the oven the water it is looking for inside the food...er...ball.
